We marched with pride in the Christmas Parade and the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The Bulkeley Band and Twirlers made an impressive sight marching down the street. We thank Band members from the past for helping to make our new uniforms a reality. Mr. Hank Kreske The Bulkeley High Choir under the direction of Mrs. Jeanette Saunders, has performed since 1976 in many spring and Christmas concerts at the school. Many community requests have allowed the group to perform at the Senior Citizens Center, the Hartford Arts Festival, the Italian Festival, the Convalescent Home and also on Channel 30 TV station. The Choir has been an asset to both school and community. Mrs. Jeanette Saunders 115 w’r.x-v PSI. Jil ; flp ' Op 1 ifflHB ' .; ; x? The Bulldog football squad en¬ joyed limited success during the 1980 season. Victories over South Catholic and Weaver were high points in a season of ups and downs. The team’s upset tie with New Britian was another peak game for the boys. Outstanding play during CDC games, by the Bulldog team, resulted in several Bulkeley players being named to the CDC All star team. The key factors in several games were the in¬ dividual efforts put forth by the squad. Several underclassmen proved themselves valuable and will lead the 1981 squad. 132 BOYS ' SOCCER First Row: Richard Rodriguez, John Burgio, Alex Leon, Robert Capossea, Eric Femiak, John Condit, George Rafael, Marino Patino, Kenny Rodriguez, Nick Larusso, Evaristo Araulo, Nick Czunas, Second Row: Coach Frank Budaj, Joe Mollica, Alton Gray, Bobby Dziewaltowski, Leigh Thompson, Jose Restrepo, Danny Wacht, Zbigniew Ziobro, Jesus Conde, Caleb Patino, Mario Garofalo, Claudio Bazzano, Kris Jargilo, Santos Finocchiaro, Andrez Dziewaltowski, Wesley Zalewski, and Sebby Garofalo. With the return of eight letter winners, the soccer team had a fine season. They finished with nine wins and seven losses and they also qualified for the state tournament for the eighth straight year. Six players were chosen for the all CDC first and second teams, and senior Kris Jargilo was also chosen for the all state team. The team scored sixty-eight goals throughout the season, making it the second highest scoring soccer team in the history of the school. 134 :ain Joe Mollica IRLS’ SOCCER First Row: Man Smith, Blanca Ramos, Lola Rios, Second Row: Lisa Mathews, Jackie Ballestas, Kim Aligata, Sylvia Santos, Pauline Rivera, Lourdes Vega, Maria Figueroa, Third Row: Denise Reali, Monica Capezza, Nadja Garcia Rosano Diaz Jackie Blint, Enid Rodriguez, Coach Magno, absent from picture are Marisol Luciano, Michelle Bifolk and Cynthia Joinor. ’ A relatively new Girls’ Soccer team, in on¬ ly their second year as a varsity team, began the season with a slow start. As the season progressed, the girls’ enthusiasm increased and the team ended with a 4-8-3 record. Seven members returned from the 1979 squad and only four of them are graduating, so the outlook for next year is promising. 136 BOYS’ CROSS COUNTRY First Row: Scott Garitty, Kevin Hill, Faustino Flores, Jose Rivera, Pedro Flores, Second Row: Darryl Biggs, Greg Mangini, Art Williams, Alberto Flores, Jose Martinez, Coach Vertefeuille. This year’s Cross Country team had a very low turnout. The team was further handicapped by the departure of four out of the first five runners for various reasons, thus ending in a 3-9 season. Captain Alberto Flores led the team thru a difficult season and managed first team CDC honors for himself. 138 Captain Alberto Flores 139 ’ VOLLEYBALL First Row: Elmer Bay Rawlins, Maria Rosado, Indira Ramdharry, Diana Montes, Ybon Montes, Gloria Dejesus, Se¬ cond Row: Noris Fontanez, Beatriz Alvarez, Damaris Cardona, Genia Zelez, Anthea Bell, Ada Kuilan, Mattlyn Little, Janice Camp, Angela Amadeo, Claudia Hernandez. An inexperienced, but enthusiastic volleyball team entered the season with high hopes. The girls showed great improvement on route to a 9-6 record. Once again they won the CDC title as they have every year since its inception, three years ago. Miss Horrigan is very happy with the girls’ efforts, which for the fifth time, qualified the team for the state tournament. Six seniors will be graduating from the squad this year, they are: Anthea Bell, Ybon Montes, Diana Montes, Mattlyn Little, Bay Rawlins and Claudia Hernandez. The highlight of the season was their victory over rival South Catholic, 94-68. As the girls prepared themselves for State Competition, senior, Tracey Callahan broke the school and pool record in the 100 yd. freestyle and the school record in the 50 yd. freestyle. Another pool record broken was the 400 yd. freestyle relay.
