We, the class of 1976, in honor of the school’s 50th anniversary, are very proud to dedicate our yearbook to the late governor Morgan Gardner Bulkeley, after whom Bulkeley High School was named. The late Mr. Bulkeley was born in East Haddam on December 26,1837. At the age of 9, he and his family moved to Hartford, where he started working in his father’s insurance company, now known as Aetna Life Insurance Company. Even¬ tually, he became the third president Of Aetna, after his father’s death. He was elected as a councilman and later mayor. In 1888, he was elected gover¬ nor of the state of Connecticut. In 1904, he climaxed his career by being elected to the United States Senate. Not only was this unusual man a great social and economic success, but he was also a lover of sports. He organized many baseball teams. And in recognitio n of this, Bulkeley was named President of the National League at its organization in 1870. Thus this eminent man — outstanding in business, politics, and sports — lived a truly full life. We should all be proud to be part of the magnificent school which has been dedicated to this great man — Morgan Gardner Bulkeley.

have influenced our growth and maturity; not only have they taught us in academics but in organizations and many areas of life also. The faculty has guided and aided us — we should remember them with gratitude and a smile. As we sojourn through this significant period of our lives — these four years at BHS — we must stop and contemplate important influences on our development.
