Overall, the Demons compiled a 15-6 record and at the conclusion of the season were the fifth-ranked team in the state. The team marched through its conference schedule with a spotless 8-0 record, outscoring the opposition by a combined total of 34-4. It was the fifth consecutive conference championship for Buies Creek. The Demons placed four players on the all- regional team. They were Rusty Scarborough, Steve Todd, Marshall Yoder, and Arthur Johnson. Rusty Scarborough also made the all-state team. After taking the conference crown, the team faced tough outside competition. They took seven of these games and came very close to winning in several others. Following these games the Demons participated in the sectional tournament at Campbeil College. Here they defeated two opponents to capture the tournament. The Demons then traveled to Wilson to take part in the eastern regional of the state tournament where the Demons took on New Hanover, a highly ranked team from Wilmington. In a tight game the Demons pulled out a victory with Arthur Johnson’s shot from the twelve-yard line to win 1-0. Now only four teams remained in contention for the State title. In the next game the Demons faced Ravenscroft, a top ranked team from Raleigh. The tremendous season finally came to aclose as the Demons lost 5-0 in a game that was much closer than the score indicated. The Demons lost many outstanding seniors, but should continue to be one of the top teams in the state. ‘“‘We’re Number One” Get A Kick Out Of Soccer “Hello, | Love You, Won’t Yor Tell Me Your Name’’ aS ae en eer pee Rusty Scores Again Matt Boots One Marshall Yoder ar Mark Cole Herbert Chavis Arthur Johnson 40 Rusty Scarborough Junior Garner ee, Mark Roberts Mark Stewart David McKnight panes Steve Todd 41 Golf Team Drives For Championship SMP: Hard work, patience, dedication, and talent made up achampionship team. Under the direction of Coach Bill Tyson, Buies Creek hoped to win their first golf championship in 1976 after finishing in second place for the past three years. The Demons were led by their four senior starters: Mark Cole, who was 1975 all conference golfer and captain of the team; Marshall Yoder, who was the power of the team; John Phelps, who was the most improved since he joined the team four years ago; and John Wilbourne, who was looking for his senior year on the golf team to be the best of his career. In 1975 the golf team compiled a record of 42 Row 1: Coach Tyson, John Wilbourne, Marshall Yoder, John Phelps. Row 2: Dean Burgess, Mark Cole. fifteen wins against only four losses. In 1977 the Demons, with the loss of four seniors, will be hit hard, but look to the youth in the team to carry on the winning tradition. The golf team planned to ask younger boys or girls to take up the game of golf so that Buies Creek will always have a strong team. With this in mind the future for Buies Creek in the golf realm is very bright. The golf team sends this note of thanks to Keith Hills Country Club for the use of the championship golf course, enabling the Demons to make their bid for their first conference championship. his a Matt roughing it!
