Text from Pages 1 - 94 of the 1975 volume:

The Long And | As we reminisce the years that have passed, we realize it has been “a long and winding road.” Memories of making new friends and growing closer e old ones are all a part of the road we have raveled. Our thoughts of elementary school are of ollipops, recess, and first love notes. We remember bur high school years beginning with the excitement e knew as freshmen. Joining clubs, being a true Demon, and learning to study hard were big parts of bur lives. Drivers education and being accepted by {he seniors are included in the memories of our Winding Road sophomore year. Highlights of our junior year were class rings and giving the seniors a night to remember at the prom. Our senior year is full of nostalgia for the place which holds all of these memories, our high school. We look once again down the long and winding road, reliving precious moments in our past. And then, we look again only te see that the road is even longer and perhaps a little harder to,travel. With one last look at the long road that lays behind us, we take another step forward down our own Yong and winding road. This one night had taken much hard work and thought. The theme of the prom, “Midsummer Night’s Dream” was carried out by the waiters and waitresses as they entertained with a scene from the play by Shakespeare. Music was provided by Crossroads. The Jr.-Sr. Prom is a very special memory of our “Long and Winding Road.” ee ee ee Queen in i gl bball tt coming Shelia Walden SOAR REPRE WHPANEH QE ERRYAN a Y nice We? -seeennneraii nih hatin SSO NN li Homecoming Finalists Myrisha Maxwell iia _ eo eA P AAA AY Melody Burgess Maribeth Yoder 25 eee Court Homecoming WN iercenatioenion sence ilyn Johnson, Laura Lloyd, Mila Mar ’ Shelia Walden Lauffer, Maribeth Yoder, 3 of = oO S be 54 Su 3 0 as 0 ite SQ = na) sei 1S So nS ot ie) OA Susan Royals, , Julie Johnson Juanita Blackmon Les F rites Francaises Initiates New Members row 1: Mark Cole, Juanita Blackmon, Lisa Lauffer; row 2: Carol Byrd, Susan Royals, Laura Beals, Lyvonne Stone, Julie Byrd, Mike Ferrell, Cathy Lamm, Dianne Keller, Sheree Lloyd; row 3: Tim Easley, Marshall Yoder, Debra Nelson, Laura Lloyd, Robert Ennis, Teresa Humphrey, Anthony Mitchell, Lunette Stephenson, Mila Johnson, Mrs. Slaughter. Broughton Wilson Fike Denotes Conference Games Many of the pictures in the Soccer For Soccer Team NOWNwWRROrRNNNNFRN LYFE section were contributed by Mr. Todd Scarborough. The Demons’ 1974-75 soccer season was a suc- cess. They started their season by entering the Campbell College In- vitational, and placed fourth. Then they went through their conference season with a 7-1 record, and were named the Champions. The Demons placed three players on the All-Conference team, Mike Ferrell, Brent Stew- art, and Rusty Scarbor- ough. Honorable mentions were Steve Eddings, An- drew Gilchrist, and Ar- thur Johnson. Challeng- ing teams outside of the conference came next. Al- though they only beat one team and tied another, they still have the respect of all teams, for no one gets an easy win over the Demons. The Demons then went to the Districts where they played their last game. It was a tough game with Wilson Fike scoring in the first half. In the early part of the second half the Demons came back with a shot from the 18 by Mike Ferrell. The game was played out to the regular time with no more scoring, and then two overtimes, still scoreless. Each team was then awarded five penalty kicks. Fike making 4, and B.C. making 2. There was no shame in the Demon crowd that day, for they played their hardest, but just did not get the breaks. The Demons will lose many seniors and much talent, but like always they will pull through and remain the Champs. Mr. Will- oughby (at right), our principal, will be remembered by the gradu- ating class as a fair and honest man. During our years at Buies Creek High School, he has been a leader well worth following. Our vice-principal, Mr. Williams (be- low left), has been a friend as well as a person to turn to in need. Also, a person behind the scenes, but one who keeps our school roll- ing is Mrs. Davis (below right), our secretary. We owe many thanks to them for all they have done for us in our years here. Home Coordinator Public School Music Special Faculty Provides Special Services BC Receives Extra Recognition And Efforts Buies Creek is one of the schools selected by the National Humanities Faculty Program to receive a grant in the form of services from ex- perts in many wide-ranging fields. The NHF project forcuses on the development of an in- terdisciplinary humanities program. The core group member include the coordinator Mr. Wil- liam Tyson, Mrs. Jackie Slaughter, Mrs. Geneva Martin, and Mrs. Jean Shawver. The first fac- ulty visitor, Mr. O.B. Davis (pictured at right), gave the core group beneficial suggestions to begin the program. Following his visit the core group created a modified English curriculum for grades 7-12 and began to implement some of his ideas. The next visitors scheduled are in the areas of Social Studies and Black Litera- ture. Buies Creek is fortunate to have such an outstanding program. In the group where parents meet teachers, we find interested people trying to improve and help our school. Last year the PTA had a successful project in purchasing a piano which has been used in many programs. This year the project was buying warm-up suits to be used by the soccer and bas- ketball teams. Together the PTA and Home Furnishings class are planning to make curtains for the cafeteria. With these efforts, the PTA is moving BCHS forward. 80 z |= Leo McDonald, Owner Whirlpool Appliances—RCA Television 7 Mohawk Carpet ALG , Pal), ¢ Home Phone 893-4185 Wel OS Box: 205.2 | ane || Store Phone 893-3442 Lillington, NC 27546 SHORT STOP FOOD MART caida a Buies Creek, NC ae) The Road Not Taken .- Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, A PGT OSS MURS; TOO ocaccoccscessonctcetes 14,28,36,75 VAL COCK IMT SMC Cemementctae terete ee ee 78 Allen: Tamers cee on cet e retrer 65 Aller, Will 16:sen ve cerecerete een cre aac 65 INST NGOIAW DY, (CA IVD eco cncecsaccococesenc soeobecnadesseace 65 PNRISRIOTAD DS, WWINAIEND, o:poscccensctocaasbaceeesnoctonosee 29,62 Austin Allan eset cee eee eee ee 1 PAUIStIN, Eii Ceeeee os atrar ort ete eee ee ee 72 AVCFY; DIVanine ce te ee eee 69 A VOT Ys COLE M es ere ater ee nee tee enemraty 70 B Bain, Harold Acute. ee ee ee: 67 Bakers Douglastecs se tenes 71 BAND) 25.22 She ee ee ee 40 Barrett; Marvaretenccst eee tee 69 Beal: Lynn 2c c-tecuse eas) een ear: 65 Beals’ Betseyateranccses ites cme eee: 66 iBealswlialuiaeneees eres ee eee 27,28,32,33,40,58 Beals: SUSAT cued eens ey ete eee 68 BECA GLUB Uceesesen ee are 32 Blackmon, Juanita .......... fy IG TO) AG 271, 28,29,30, 31,82,39,04,06,00 TBS EVO SATAVOLT, IATA Fe necncnsosasconnnnbanssnoonodencsecnadnone 65 Javelina, YES.
