After the game. . . ecer Soccer Soccer SoccerSoccerSoccerSoccerSoccerSoccerSocce Soccer History The 1972 Soccer season was a very successful one with the team producing a record of 12-5. The Demons won the Lee-Harnett con- ference title with an 8-0 record, defeating Benhaven. The Demons lost only five games — all nonconference. The team met their defeats from first ranked Chapel Hill and third ranked Ravenscroft. After the regular season, Buies Creek traveled to the Raleigh Regionals. There, they defeated 4-A Broughton High School 1-0. The second game was against a competitive Greenfield team, Buies Creek winning 7-0. The final game against Ravenscroft remained Defeat . .a rare occurrence. scoreless with six minutes left. A Ravenscroft goal in the final minutes ended the season for the Demons. Leading scorers for our team were: Tony Ferrell, 21 goals; Mark Johnson, 15 goals; and Rhonda Matthews, 15 goals. Tony McKoy, David Newton, Mike Ferrell, and goalie Murray Johnson displayed tremendous defensive skills. With such a satisfying season behind them, the Demons of Soccer are remembered for their outstanding offensive and defen- sive balance and leave us with high hopes for our future teams.
