he Greek x ——- Buies Creek High Schoo Buies Creek, N.C. pirit of 71” Message from our {ir incipal: John A. Willoughby 'Tis education forms the common mind: Just as the twig is bent the tree's inclined. ' Alexander Pope provided an intuitive contemporary approach to education in his eighteenth century statement on the molding of youthful minds. Today's stu- dents seek recognition, respect, individuality and development of themselves, the community and the world. I challenge you, the students at Buies Creek High School, to reach out and broaden your perspectives on life. Let your attitudes and behavior reflect an annihilation of all evil and an affirmation of all good. “enema sa ae it Ni Sa eit i aa OO a eT ee ee Iu Appreciation: Hrs. Judy Ashley New word, people! GIVE. The greatest word she taught us: Give. . . Not by definition, this word. But by action. People, stop taking and start giving. Give of the heart: Forgiveness. Love, kindness, joy, understanding, sympathy, tolerance Give of the mind: Ideals. Dreams, purposes, principles, plans; ideas. Give of the spirit: Prayer. Vision, beauty, aspirations, peace, faith. Give words: Encouragement. Inspiration, guidance. Who taught us how to- give And set us to thinking of our purposes, We have a New word, teacher! Appreciation. | For one who has given us so much of herself. And an old word. Thanks. In the stream of life with all its detours and perils, one seldom encounters a current challenging enough to determine its course. The effectiveness of the current may be determined by its gushing forcefulness or in a more subtle combination of continuous ripples. Such an aggregation of service reflects itself in the quiet pools of our school and our community. For his endeavors with the youth of our school, his genuine concern, his willingness to listen and his invaluable time, we, the Seniors, dedicate our yearbook to Dr. Burgess P. TESTATRIX MALINDA CRAWFORD 26 Prophecy TIME: 1971 PLACE: THE WORLD This is the flight-log of Starship 7 on a one-year tour of the planet Earth. We orbit the small globe a few times and decide to come in for a closer look. The continent of America looms ahead of us in its overpopulated condition. As the vessel of the galaxies lands who should greet me but my old earthling buddy, Bud Nordan. He appears to be upset about his job at N.A.S.A. It seems they fired him for tardiness in the Data Lab Programming Project. I move on down the road toward a small farm where I find a human stooped under a creature called a cow. As the person raises his head Ty Johnson's face appears. From the looks of it, he's still hard at work milking cows and has been for 20 years. The small farm loses my interest as I move on to the nearest city which is New York. Here is the fashion center of Miss (?) Jenny Upchurch who has built quite a reputation for her- self. She later plans to go to a tiny town that rings a bell in my mind. Buies Creek will be priv- ileged to have her lecture in the Home Ec. class of Mrs. Maxwell. In passing a local gym, I see a figure yelling strange obscenities at the famed Carolina Cougars team. The coach is none other than Glenda Meadowlark Mitchell. She states that her pay is fair: a paltry $1, 600,900 a year.: Returning to my shop I pass a photographer taking pictures of Cathy Butts for Cover Girl Magazine. i My ship ascends to one mile above the sphere. On ie second leg of ive trip I l i of theyplay is married to Sylvia Sawyer, a great Backedball! fan One of the players informed me that Sherrill Knight, a guy of many talents, captured every game on canvas. 1 reboard my craft in a rather weary mood. ae I make a short stop in Vietnam where the guardian angel(janet Mal Bye” me dressed in a sexy, olive-colored suit. She always was a sly one, anyway. My last stop is France. Upon arriving the prefect of Paris extends an invitation to tour the city with him. Our first place of interest is a fashion studio of the famed Mademoiselle Cathy Vail. She has waged war on her arch enemy, Miss Upchurch, in New York City. It seems that it beqan when Miss Upchurch wore the same dress Mademoiselle Vail wore at the Fashion Pavalion in Italy two years ago. Tsk, tsk, tsk. The Mayor diverts my attention to the Science Laboratory on the college campus. We walk through the halls toward a room filled with people. They are the staff personnel directed by Miss Elizabeth Blackmon, P.H. D. The experiment.amder way was one of no consequence=_ their recipe for water failed. Leaving the room, I notice.a bulletin posted by the French Police ee are on the lookout for some shady character named Le@n Jernigan, the Mad Doctor, alias Stace. He is wanted for testing his new device for disarming the common By Wd bean. Obviously, it was a failure. Needing a thirst quencher, I went to the nearest drugstoxg ger a soda. Entering it, I spied a group of secretaries, one of w tthews. Then, I met the owner iunselt) Mr. Glenn Wallace. As I walked down the hall, I looked in the room next to me and saw Joe Platt sentencing Malinda Crawford for getting married and enjoying life to the fullest. Leaving the building, I purchased a paper at the corner news stand. The headlines read: ''Catherine McLean says she's the best thing that ever happened to movies and modeling. '' Who's to argue? My bones are getting weary now so I must get back to Planet X, but before Ido, I want to take one last look at the U.S.A. Guiding the ship west I swoop low over Marlboro Country and see Francis Eddings riding off into the sunset. Close behind him is Jerry Lamm polluting the plains with exhaust from his high-compressioned '91 Super Chevelle. Flying over the Raleigh-Durham Airport in N.C.I wing my craft, to hear Flight 567 now leaving for Russia, France, and South Vietnam. Doing a double-take I see the famed playwright, Frankie Harrington boarding the plane, leaving for a tour of guest appearances around the world. Booters entered the N.C. Interscholastic Soccer Tour- nament and promptly disposed of Enloe and Sanderson High Schools of Raleigh. Buies Creek was named District III Champion. The only loss of the year came at the hands of Charlotte's powerful Independence High School (the present state champions) in a hotly contested duel which was scoreless for 3 1 2 quarters of play. The future of Buies Creek in the new realm of soccer holds very bright promise indeed. The basketball program at our school is on the way up. We look forward to a double winning season with the girls and boys varsity teams. Our defending Champion girls are very definite contenders to the county title once again. This year's team, with more experi- ence and better balance, could repeat or better last year's per- formance. The Boy's Varsity is definitely an improved team and will probably be successful in their quest for a winning season in a very tough league. This year's Demon boys, with more experience and depth, could well be in the running of the trophy race, come tournam ent time. bys Blood eee Sweat. And Tears...
