It has, been.ten long years and I intend to find how each of my classmates are and what they are doing now. My knees tremble as I enter the old house and_-butterflies syrt flying in my stomach as I explore the old house. The old wizard steps into the hall from a side room and motions me in. Before I realize what happened, I find myself at a table with a small Crystal Ball in front of me. The wizard asks me what I want. I tell him I want to ADE Bleete snare people and these places, andI hand him the list of names. After making adjustments to the table, heasks i five dolifrs™ After receiving the money, he flips aswitch and the Crystal Ball flashes from dim to Pane several Py and finally leaves a dark rectangular space in the middle of it. ; A few more adjustments and a name sign of aschool appears in ne Crystal Bal The sign looks very familar except it reads Buies Creek Elementary School instead of Buies Creek High School. By this picture, I assume that the schools of Hani ey must have finally consolidated. The Crystal Ball flashes to nothing except the good wotteot a large Dolidated school. The wizard tells me this is the part Buies Creek plays in the new school. The Crystal Ball goes dim and finally out. I ask, 'What happened''? He says, Five more dollars please: it takes a lot of electricty to run this little machine. After five more dollars we continue on with my classmates in alphabetical order. We see Joseph Baucom standing beside his barbeque grill with four or five girls bragging about his new Ford. The Crystal Ball shakes, trembles, and flashes as we see Carolyn Currin very busy trying to show her ability for keeping things straight as secretary of a large firm. Now a flash to beautiful Hawaii where Carole Gaskin is happily married to a nice Air Force Capt. The Crystal Ball nowshows Max Gregory as theowner andmanager ofthe Mac Gregor chain sporting goods. We nowSee apicture of Randy Gregory working hard in alarge hospital after receiving his medical degree. Horizontal lines and vertical lines and buzzing sounds come from the Crystal Ball. At this the wizard get upfrom his chair rather embarrassed and slaps thetable with his hand and sets back down. Now witha rather clear picture we see Jo Ann Hall doing an excellent job of secreterial work for the General Electric Co. oe As the Crystal Ball continues its short flashes from one classmate to another, it catches Donald Johnson behind afancy desk in his gitics with his name and title of Public Accountant on his door. Just across the. Mason-Dixon Line we see Horace Edgar Johnson Jr., on a door ina Professional Building with the title of Psychology on it. I know he has had a hard go at it, so let's not bother him. Now we see a nice charming but busy wife working very hard to show het husbiied that she cares and this can-be no other than Laverne Johnson. The machine is beginning to fade again and just before it goes out we may see Neil Johnson carrying onthe responsibility of awifeand mother very happilyto Maurice Johnson. The machine or Crystal Ball goes blank and the wizard makes some kind of adjustments to it and finally get.it.to working again, The Crystal Ball flashes and buzzes and goes out incomplete driness and-the. wizard doesn't seem to be able to fix it right away, so I look throughthe Senior section of my yearbook until he can fix the machine. The Crystal Ball flashes across the Mason-Dixon Line again and to the same. professional building that Horacé was in. There is Harold Keyser studying a volume of law books, sovevidently he received his degree of law. This little machine has done some wonders while I have been here, it has picked-up people in Hawaii, and Canada where Shelby Lockamy is happily married to a man of Air Force Blue. Now a flash from Canada back to Harnett County where Bill Matthews is the sole owner of amass producing motor factory of '195' ford engines. (What's he got against the world, any way'?) «= Watching the Crystal Ball flash back and forthfrom one section of the country to the other, I came to the conclusion that you need a good vehicle to get around in these days, and the Crystal © Ball shows Eddie McLeod doing his part by offering us any model that the Ford Motor Company puts out in his large Ford motor sales lot in Angier. 4 7 : _ SE The Crystal Ball goes blank, andthe wizardhas a very disgusted look on his face. I tremble with fear as he gets up from his seat andvery angrily beats his fists. I know he is going to ask ¢ for more money or beat the fool out of me like he did the table. I was right. He asks for mor money and I gladly hand it over. 4 y Se With avery vague picture we see Mickey Ramer's Civil Engineer's Office on Elk's Mountain, — funny he doesn't seem to be around at the time. I wish that the Class of '65 has stayed alittle, — closer together, for it seems.a big strain on the little machine. Now after a few static outburts _ by the Crystal Ball we go tothe mountains where we find Ralph Reardon as chief electrician of on _alarge T.V.A. project. | BA iy 2 . } Ohboy, it's a flash to Washington where we find Annie Lee Sawyer, prancing, around the” — capitol building’as an executive advisor to the President. , 4 Y gpa While-in Washington we find’ Bari Stone discussing with a group of dignitaries, a model missile, which he designed and proved excellent. 4 q Uh-oh, We gotta go to California where Judy Stewart is training a group of girls for the Olympic swimming team. I can see her left hand and she is not married. I know the wizard is getting fed up with this traveling mess. Well, here we go again back to Washington where we find Marilyn Stewart working as a personal secretary to the President of the U.S.A. ” The wizard tells me very kindly that we won't be able to get a picture of Joyner Taylor, except at personal appearances with his very own popular band, The Classmates. I let the wizard know that I am not sore and that I understand. (Ha,Ha, ) We now see Gene Thornton as a Highway Supervisor and he is trying his best to get his crew to build a new road from his house to Benson. It looks as though David Turlington is finally busy, now he is a druggist, and owns several drug stores throughout the country. Watch those drugs, Turlington! The Crystal Ball makes a great bright flash to Rex Hospital where Mary Lee Turpin is cheering up patients and making them feel more relaxed, since she was promoted to head nurse position inthe hospital. | With a few small flashes we see Hartwell Upchurch competing against Eddie McLeod in the Ford Motor sales division. rf % 3 We now see Bill Weaver looking over the salés report of one of his chain clothing stores ‘that he has inthis'section ofthe state. The Crystal Ball has another mechanical tempertantrum, and this upsets the wizard andhetells meto get out. I'tell him that there is just one more class- mate to go.and that I have already paid to see the person.. So here we have last but not least no other than Frankie Wilder standing over a-large quantity of chemicals which he is testing for a _ large chemical plant. As I leave the dilapidated house, and the old wizard, fussing, and fighting with the table, I feel no trembles in my knees, nor any butterflies in my. stomach;’ but there are tears dripping from my eyes’and_I think about my classmates and all the things we did together--such as the arguments anddisagreements we had, a ll the planning and work we did, and all the happiness and sadness weshad. The most treasuréd thing about our class was that in case of problems, they were solved. Oh, how I wish I Gould relive those marvelous days. Prophet, Mickey Ramer JUNIOR CLASS OFFICERS Presse ie).
