Let us tell you what to do. Set a watch upon your actions, Keep them always straight and true. Rid your mind of selfish motives, Let your thoughts be clean and high. You can make a little Eden Of the sphere you occupy. Do you wish the world were wiser? Well, suppose you make a start, By accumulating wisdom In the scrapbook of your heart; Do not waste one page on folly; Live to learn, and learn to live. If you want to give men knowledge You must get it, ere you give. Do you wish the world were happy? Then remember day by day Just to scatter seeds of kindness As you pass along the way, For the pleasures of the many May be ofttimes traced to one, As the hand that plants an acorn Shelters armies from the sun, Ella Wheeler Wilcox MOTTO Resolve to perform what you ought; Perform without fail what you resolve, COLOR Carolina Blue and White FLOWER White Rose MASCOTS Laura Ann Long Mark Cole HERSGHEIGAVERY, Junior Play 3 Annual Staff 4 Student Council 4 BETSY BAUCOM Glee Elibei.2.o 4 | Bhs Will aes, AA Library Club 1,2,4 4-H 1,2 Journalism Club 4 JUDY BEALE Class Officer 3,4 Junior Play 3 Superlatives 3,4 Annual Staff 4 The Demon Sheet Staff 3,4 Journalism 3,4 . 7 S Student Council 1 cr q (library Club 3 e Glee Glubi152,3-4 ao | F.H. Twelve of us are proud to say that we have been to Buies Creek School from the first through the twelfth. Theyare: Morrison Byrd, Harry Ennis, Leon Jones, Mike Lasater, William Sawyer, Johnny Stone, Betsy Baucom, Judy Beale, Ann Currin, Suvon Gaskin. Barbara Johnson and Wanda Matthews, In the second grade we gained one classmate, Harold Butts Jr., who came from Lillington, Beginning our third year we gained two new members of our class, Don Johnson, who came from Durham and Emory Upchurch, who came from Norfolk, Virginia. As we began our fourth year, we gained still another member, Herschel Avery, who came from An- gier, We had another addition to our class in the sixth grade, Floyd Daniels, who came to us from Coats, We had no more new members until our Sophomore year of high school. Then Jesse Jernigan, who came from Newport and Judy Carol Upchurch, who came from Angier, joined our class. Now in our Senior year we have gained five new members of our class, They are: Donald Lee, who came from Dunn, Brownie Kennedy and Elaine Gregory attended summer school at Campbell in the summer of 1961 and are finishing with the regular Senior Class, Darlene Jackson, who came from Fay- etteville, began the ‘62 school year with us but lacking only one unit having enough to be out of high school, went to Campbell, She will, however, be back to graduate with the Senior Class, Gloria Wat- terson, who has been to Buies Creek School once before, has returned from New Mexico to finish with us. Class Historian, Johnny Stone Class S Trophecy As we the Senior Class of 1962 depart from Buies Creek High School after graduation, we made plans to all meet again for a reunion 10 years from that very day. Now with a little foresight into the future we will try to picture that occasion, The reunion was held at the new home of Mrs, Maxwell, which over-looks beautiful Lake Campbell on the outskirts of Buies Creek, After a wonderful meal prepared by the women of the class, and the various speeches, we sat around reminiscing about the good-ole days, As I wandered from one group to another, I listened and learned something about the occupation of each member of our class, Herschel Avery is now living in Raleigh, where he owns a controlling interest in Sir Walter Chevro- let Company. Betsy Baucom is now married and living in Durham, Judy Beale is now teaching grade school in Florida, Harold Butts is now the proud owner of a chain of Mo-Go Service Stations, Morrison Byrd is now the owner of a Garage and Speed Shop in Erwin, Ann Currin is now happily married and teaching school in Houston, Texas, Floyd Daniels is now the manager of the Buies Creek Bus Terminal, Harry Ennis is now foreman on King Roberts Ranch, Suvon Gaskin is now working as a secretary for a Real Estate Firm. Elaine Gregory is now part owner of a cosmetics manufacturing company in Kentucky. Darlene Jackson is the wife of a most successful lawyer in Kenansville, Barbara Johnson is now a dental technician for the new Buies Creek Medical Center, Jesse Jernigan is now a coach and teacher at New Hanover High School in Wilmington. Don Johnson is now working as an aeronautical engineer for Boeing. Leon Jones is now one of the largest land owners, and farmers in the county. Brownie Kennedy is now teaching in the English Department at Campbell, Mike Lasater is now working as a civil engineer for the State, Donald Lee is now farming and at present is the County Roads Commissioner, William Sawyer is now the State District Manager for the Chrysler Corporation, Wanda Matthews is now a physical therapist at Walter Reed, Emory Upchurch is now manager for the Edgerton Oil Company Enterprises. Judy Carol Upchurch is now the private secretary of the governor of North Carolina, é The reunion is over; and everybody begins to leave, as I stand here, I wonder just what this group of people will be doing when the year 1982 rolls around.
