Class Stistory A large part of the members of the graduating class of 56 entered the first grade together, Among these were: Jimmy Thomas Baker, Mary Susan Ragland, Webster Powell Turlington, Barbara Ann Lane, Ollie Faye Gaskin, Reid Reginald Rogers, James Graham Ryals, Herman Fordyce Page, James Clifton Matthews, and Robert Franklin Dixon. During the eight following years, many were added and a few of our friends left to join other schools. Those who entered our grades at different intervals during the eight years are: Lodis Butts, Betty Drue Dorman, Joyce Dorman Blanchard, Betty Lou Boyd, Carolyn Sue Jones, John Charles Green, and James Bryan Cates, In September, 1952, we, the class of '56, made our first appearance in high school. We were shy and awed by high school routine but we soon settled down and became ac- customed to the excitement of finally being in high school. Our Freshman year was very eventful, meeting our eager expectations with trips and class parties. Everyone's interest wasn't toward study and books but toward the many new activities we were introduced to. The Sophomore year was patterned after the Freshman except for our more mature ways and our deeper interest in education. Feeling a greater need for closeness as only two years were left to be together in school, we began to co-operate more in school. The Junior year was much more thrilling than the past two because in this year the spotlight focused largely on receiving our class rings and the presentation of A Christ- mas Carol, our Junior Play, We ended the year with a bang at our own banquet given for the Seniors, Candlelight was the theme, This, the Senior and long awaited year of every person in the Senior Class, was to be the most important of all the twelve years, We looked forward to our Senior Play with eagerness and our trip to New York was constantly on our minds, The Junior-Senior banquet would be our last formal gathering with our friends in high school. Then with seriousness and dignity we would proudly walk on the stage to receive our diploma as graduates of Buies Creek High School. Though having received our diplomas and com- pleted high school, we would never forget the fun, work, and the closeness we had de- veloped towards each other over the years, Historian Betty Dorman
