THE WAKAPA STAFF. under the direction of Miss Aldccoa. got off to an early stazt this year. The staff members were chosen during the first week in October. The sales campaign started directly after. N: difficulty was experienced in reach- ing thc goal of 300 which the staff nit-tnht-rs had established. In fact. the result was so gratifying that thc staff incinbt rs were determined t ' produce the best annual ever published by thc Buhl High School. The choosing of a theme proved to he ouite a worry, hut finally it wxs decided that a patriotic one was the cnly logcial one at this time. With this in mind the staff wishes to dedicate this annual to all studtnts of Buhl High School who have answered the call of their country. Baker, Miss Aldecoa, Prilucik. MacKay, Graham, Woodruff. To Keep in Tune With the Times they intensively studied the fundamentals ot' music. As Q1 result of this study. they successfully sang several numbers. In so small a group they became cnngenial friends, giving pleasure to themselves and alsri pleasing the organizations before which they appeared. Front Row: Pape-nfuss, Shrader, Martins. In all departments of the war industry the pf rsonnel has been increased: theref: re to keep in step our personnel was also increased this year. With the coming of Mr. Flechtner came an cverabundance of new music for the orchestra-so much. in fact, that new shelves had to be built to make room for it. Congratulations should go to Mr. Flechtner for his part in teaching the new personnel the tricks ot' the trade which have improved our orchestra grtatly. So we say Thanks to our orchestra which creates sweet music for us and our schczel activities. BAND. Marching along together, we-the Bandkmade quite a hit in the eyes of the spectators at the games, This year our country was our foremost thought. and we expressed the pa- triotism that we felt by playing our national anthem at the beginning ot' the games. We gave cur basketball and ftotball teams a grand send-off with the popular hits and snappy marches in thc Pep Assemblies and at the games. In the dead of winter we also appeared in a concert given by the Music De- partments of Buhl High. The attendance exceeded all expectations. 5220144 7af24 'Wil fgeaebffe 43 I4 WL 0 .lv 1 I fl X gk Q Z4 Sualcdi Mis, Sl'I1LL'I',AIXK'f71fI. HUEDIUIIS. Aililqitizl. iizik-tim, iiizig. Paiik--. When he called for spring practice in track, Coach Villers was very pleased by the turnout of forty-three hopefuls with eleven of these being returning lettermen. It is doubtful whether there will bc more than one or two meets. but that will not keep these boys from coming out to practice. BASKETBALL, the king cf winter sports, started off with the interclass tour- nament frcm which Coach Villers picked his various squads. This tournament was won by the seniors, pushed closely by the sophomores, and the freshmen trailed the juniors to take fourth place. First Row: Lawson, Hannan, Carlsen. Olds. DeNeal, Hustead. Sisson. Stewart T. Eastman, Holmes. Second Row: Mr. Villers. Mclcsworth. Lyon. Stelma. Gilmore. Kerpa, Dey Rodig, P. Eastman. Vceller, Z Sisson Hustead Stewart Eastman Although at the beginning of the season it looked as if few games would be scheduled. the squad went to work with great vigor. As a result of the transporta- tion situation. games were scheduled closer to heme and only short trips were taken. Consequently athletic relations were resumed with our bitter rivals, the Twin F1 lis Bruins. Games were also scheduled with Castleford. The team, built around returning lettermen-Hustead, Stewart. and DeNeal, was net as successful this year as in the pastg however, most games were lost by only frur or five points. Every game was a close, hard fought battle. The first game of the season was the traditional Glenns Ferry engagement. The River-Pilots with an exceptional team captured the contest, The Castleford series was the most successful of the season far the Indians, as they won two out of three. Filer gave Buhl some real competition which resulted in four rough thrillers. The first contest went to the Indians, while the next one on the Wildcats home court was lost in the last twenty seconds. The third also went to the stubborn Cats in an overtime, and the last encounter also went to the diminutive Filerites, Twin Falls perhaps gave the Indians more trouble than any other team this season, winning four out of four, Two games were played with Burley, and the experienced Bobcats emerged victorious in both contests. The Jerome Tigers suffered a serious defeat at the hands of the scalp-hunters in one of the best played games of the year. But Jerome sought revenge when we invaded their home court and succeeded in downing the Indians. n Buhl went into the tournament as the underdog, but with a determination to win. The first game with the Burley Bobcats was the best game the Indians played all season, and the favored State Champs had their hands full in stopping the Buhl quintet by a narrow margin. In the second tilt the Indians met the Filer club for the fifth time during the season. suffering another heart-breaking defeat. thus bringing to a close the '42-'43 season, Hodig Hannan DeNeal Dey f Jia .Anya N Mx, 4 5.41 Carlson HOIIHGS Olds La WS 011 l Co 8611 Vjljers 'hx Voeuer .
