SEMINARIA 1948 Pllnl tn Cn Pllnl UNDERCLASS PRIZE STORY As I was walkang from the hangar to my barracks my feet sank deeper and deeper anto the soggy mud All of a sudden I heard Lt Garland I turned around and there was Casey my buddy For the last two years we had been together at thas base an Chana He screamed I m now flyxng my own plane We both had been waatang for about 1 month for the news Before Casey had been palot I co palot on the B 17 Bessae Lou but now Bessae was all mme Casey was has own palot on a Bell Aaracobra fighter That naght Casey was goang to t ake has Cobra and fly across the unchartered mountaans to the mam base It was two hundred males away but closer to the next objectaae These mountaans were treacherous especa ally the famous moun tam Unseen whach could not be lo ated It had caused great destructaon to those who haae flown across parts of these mountaans A dense fog reaches from the lowest aalley to the haghest peak except for thas mysteraous mountaan Un seen Only a few haae seen 1ts peak but those who haae say at as crystal clear wath the fog encarclang at about one hundred feet below the peak As Casey and I walked to the barracks I realazed that I maght never see ham agaan Many haxe been kalled crossang these mountaans but Casey must take thas chance for there was no t1me to sp are nor fuel That naght at was clear and I walked wath Casey to has plane I saad good bye washed hum luck and watched ham take off As I vaalked back to the barracks I felt sad and lonely That naght my maln thought seemed to be of Casey and I could uaaagane ham palang into the side of that mountaan The next mornmg I was asked to come to the Captaan s office Upon arravang there the Captun told me to get packed for I was goang to fly Old Bess to the other base that naght The Cap sud nothang about Casey I told my men and went to look ox er Bess I looked up to see the wand socket and jam McGavern the tower attendant motaoned to me As I ran up the small narrow steps to the tower I hoped .Iam would say somethang about Casey I reached the top and opened the door jam beckoned me an Thas as sad news I m afraad but Casey as massang and should have been at the base early thas mornang He nex er arraxed They thank he crashed anto the mountaans for he dad radao that the weather was bad and he could see nothang Farst I was hopeful for I thought he maght be rescued but then I realazed the mountuns were steep and he would have plunged at least one thousand feet to l I - 2 I 2 2 , 2 . 2. 2. , . 2 . 2 . 1 , 1 I, . 1 , 2 2 2 2. 2 2 , . 2 2 2 2 . , . . 2, , .2 2. . 2. . 9 ' s ' 1 ' 22 2. . 2 2 2 . 2 2 ' 2 2 2 ' ., ' . .
