1970 The Bison 1971 Contents Student Life ................................... 1 Life's a bridge to eternity, A pause before infinity, And each who treads this noble span Fulfills God's wondrous, absolute plan. Each plank's a stepping stone of life Only trod once in joy or strife. Step lightly, child, step carefully, youth, Step the stone planks with vigor and truth. Life is a gift and must be cherished as priceless. Life is made up of the present, past, and future. We're sure of the past and of the present, but are we just as sure of the future? All the experiences of living a full rich life will depend on what we have done in the past, what we are doing in the present, and what we resolve to do in the future. As youth we are just beginning to live. We look to the future! Youth, almost by nature it seems, is idealistic. We believe in God, love, truth, peace, and friendship. We know instinctively that to love is better than to hate, that peace should replace war, and that flowers should grow where mankind is busy building. “They paved paradise and put up a parking lot. Most people knew this at some time of their life, probably in their youth, but somewhere along the line their dreams faded, their ideas grew stale, and they lost their joy of living. It is our job to awaken this world and get on with the business of living life as we know it should be lived. We believe that life should be lived a step at a time—that life is a series of stepping stones making a bridge which leads to a future be- yond our earthly comprehension. The very first part of life can be likened to the springtime when we experience new birth and a new beginning. One of the very first stepping stones is learning to walk. We've only just begun to live; so much of life ahead; we start out walking and learn to run. Youth is like the summertime of life. We've left the springtime and now we're beginning to learn what life is all about. We're learning not only through the eyes of our parents but through the eyes of our teachers. As we think of life, we can see that the step- ping stones symbolize many things—education, ca- reers, marriage, and finally death. The memories held in this book represent one of the most important stepping stones in your life. These memories are fond ones to most of us, although some are blended with sadness. As you sit in a quiet corner and read this book, it is our wish that you will relive the events and see again the persons and places that were meaningful to you. May this Bison Annual remind you of another step- ping stone of your life as you follow through the pages of 1970 and 71's triumphs. May it also remind you of what is yet to be done with your life—a stepping stone still to be reached! For those of you who have not graduated, your high school education may now be your big stepping stones. i
