Buffalo High School Buffalo, Mo. 1957-1958 THE BISON 'iOO'riOZ HOIH DEDICATION To our Mothers and Fathers-—whose interests have been in the improvement of our lives--whose love and encourage- ment have been inspirational--and whose never ending sacrifices have made possible these four years of high school --we respectfully dedicate The Bison of 1958. BOARD OF EDUCATION Murrel Indermuehle President R. L. Whited Member Dr. 0. A. Griffin Member Ishmael McDaniel Member CONSTANT PLANNING ADJUSTS A MODERN SCHOOL TO GROWING COMMUNITY NEEDS 4 SUPERINTENDENT D. A. MALLORY h This book will become more valuable as the years pass. We will appreciate it more as the years go by, until finally it will be a real prized possession of ours. That is not only true of this book but equally so of the achieve- ments and accomplishments we make here. Those daily victories, those fine qualities and traits we add daily to a great character and fine personality, those daily deeds of kindness and goodwill we perform as we work and play, will become more vaiua’ I; as the years go by. As we glance through these pages in years to come may our memories all be pleasant ones. May our own picture recall only the finest and the best in the memories of our friends. 6 Certainly education is the 3'Rs, the reading, writing, and arithmetic skills that are necessary for a useful life in our complex society. In a larger sense, however, we must re- member that WHAT we read, WHAT we write, and TO WHAT PURPOSE we figure with numbers is even more important. The home, the church, and the school must all strive to help our children discover and adopt a worthwhile set ofvalues. Richard King Assistant Supt. We are ever mindful and grateful for the many improvements which have been brought about during the past few years. We are also aware of the many things which can still be done for the betterment of our educational program. In fact, the astounding progress of other nations seems to demand that we change gears in our educational setup if we are to maintain our rank as a leading country of the world. Irl Day High School Principal In High School Education the functions of the high school is related to adolescents: (1) Their characteristics and educational needs, (2) their lower-school background, (3) their post-high school educational or vocational plans, and (4 the demands of society upon them. Existing objectivies, practices, and policies on the high school level are interpreted and evaluated in terms of traditional backgrounds, present needs, and possible future developments. Young people probably learn best through their own experiences both in and outside of school, and these experiences should be guided carefully and intelligently. High School Edu- cation plays an important part in the quiding of these experiences.
