y I DEDICATION We, the high school classes of 1955-56 present our yearly annual. The Bison, to help preserve some of the memories of our schooldays. These school days were the best times of our lives. Besides the happy hours spent, there were many problems. These problems we took home to our parents who so will- ingly and under standingly helped us. It was their love that helped us become triumphant individuals, ready to face the future. We know that we will never be able fully to repay our parents for their affectionate kindness. To show our appreciation we are taking this opportunity to dedicate our annual to our parents. Board of Education MEMBER - Li. V. Clark VICE PRES. - Murrel Indermuehle SEC. - Owen Neill TREAS. - Ward Rea PRESIDENT - Dr. O. A. Griffin SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS - D. A. Mallory MEMBER - R. L. Whited 4 With the recent adoption of a new formula for the distribution of state aid to public schools, together with the completion of the building program now under construction in our district, it would appear that educational opportunity for our youth is looking up. Let us not forget the basic and fundamental aims of education. May the above mentioned forward steps, encourage us to greater cooperative efforts to achieve the ultimate in education in our community. Superintendent of Schools We realize how much the schools of Mis- souri have changed recently. In finer equip- ment, in modern buildings, in the introduction of new and specialized courses, there has been great progress. May we as supervisors and teachers rea- lize our responsibility, that of helping each boy and girl to fit into this changing educa- tional program. Basketball, king sport of the athletic program, has provided our fans many exciting and thrilling moments. A fine tribute was paid to our team when we were highly complemented for our sportsman like attitude during our first defeat of the 1955-56 season. The West Plains Daily Quill , reads as follows: It was the finest display of sportsmanship and the West Plains fans that saw it said it helped to make the game more enjoyable and it of course made the visiting team feel good and have liked to play that team again win or lose. The Bison Varsity, third place winners in the class B state tournament in 1955,has enjoyed one of its better seasons. The Bisons won the Buffalo Invitational tournament, the Gold Division of the Greenwood Invitational, and placed third in the Springfield Tournament of Champions. At present they have accumulated 20 victories against 3 defeats. Bisons which will be greatly missed include starters-Bill Moulder, Jerry Kirksey, Jack Shew- maker, Jimmy Beckner, Gene Bradley, and Wayne Wilson. An amazing record which has gone unnoticed but will go down in Bison History as tops for any sport activity. The Bisonnettes Softball Team has gone through four straight undefeated inter school softball seasons. Winning a total of thirty-two straight softball games in interschool competition. Included are four Tournament titles. This is indeed a great contribution and the girls mustbe commended for such an accomplishment. Graduating from this years undefeated team includes, Lettered 4 year s-Carolyn Davis, J anice Neill, and Wanda Looney, Lettered 3 years-Xiva Nelson, and Janice Franklin, Lettered 2 years-Donna Foster. The B Team has won nine victories out of eleven in B Team compe- tition and two victories over A Teams of the area. The Jr. High Team at the present have a composite record of 6 to 1 loss. The Freshmen Squad is all even with one win and one loss. While the 7-8 grade team are undefeated with 5 games. We should indeed be very thankful for the splendid success we have obtained in all our sports activities. Let us be thankful that we have a school and a community that is noted for its enthusiasm toward our Athletic Teams and at the same time has been pointed to as the tops in Sports- menship by our opposing teams. It is hoped that these traits will continue for all who are involved with our sports program. 78 Basketball Derrel Beck David i Hawkins! Few new areas have come into our curriculum without protest and con- troversy. This is true as some schools attempt to do something about avia- tion. The future of aviation does not depend on the attitude of the schools to- ward it as a necessary part of the curriculum. It has played, is playing, and will continue to play a vitally important role in our society and will continue to exert a tremendous influence upon our social, political, and economic fu- ture. The Buffalo High School started two years ago, under the instruction of Mr. Richard L. King, to give its students an opportunity to explore the field of aviation and become familiar with the elementary technique of flying. The future of aviation in our curriculum is uncertain due to the scarcity of qualified instructors, but the future of aviation in our society is assured. The instrument panel below is a picture of the one in the Tri Pacer Plane used in instruction in this course in aviation. It is the minimum for cross country flying. Compare it with the dash of a buggy used in modern trans- portation 50 years ago. The buggy dash-board contained only a socket that carried the whip.
