Text from Pages 1 - 88 of the 1955 volume:

Board of Education No school is stronger than its Board of Educa- tion. The full support given our school system by the entire community is plain evidence of the people' faith and trust in our board. The policies set by the board and the loyal support it has given our administration and faculty have made pos- sible our fine school sys- tem. WARD REA, President DR. O. A. GRIFFIN. Vice Pres. L. V. CLARK, Treasurer R. L. WHITED, Secretary MURRELL INDERMUEHLE OWEN NEILL 2 1 o n We are not dedicating this book to these calves not the pail nor the milk. We are merely using the illustration to show the thing that has made our school the kind that we as students are proud to have the opportunity to attend. A community cannot become the proud owners of a school like our s and achieve the things ours has achieved until its citizens have made the intelligent decision that these calves made and pull toward a common interest and common cause. We, the Student Council of the Buffalo High School, as representatives of the student body want to,express the gratitude of that student body for the opportu- nities afforded us. So it is to that spirit of co-operation, of working together, of individual sacrifice toward a common cause on the part of every citizen of this community that we dedicate this the 1954-55 Bison. May that spirit ever prevail in this community for the sake of those to follow after us. You no doubt recognize the above. It was used by the Student Council in the 1949 Annual. The annual committee felt that it is just as appropriate today, since we frequently need to be reminded of the message and lesson contained therein. 3 Chairman Annual Committee ADMINISTRATION AND FACULTY D. A. MALLORY, Superintendent In the evolution of American education the people will ultimately decide that the schools must, not only provide an appropriate edu- cation for all the children of all the people but also continuing edu- cation in some form directed toward the proper adjustment of all people, regardless of age, made necessary by rapidly changing social and economic conditions. Athletics The school year 1954-55 was another banner year for Bison fans. They were treated to another first in Skyline Conference competition, and undefeated home season, and the crown in our own invitational tournament. A fine group of boys and girls played their best to bring honor to their school and corrlmunity. As a result they will cherish many happy memories in the years to come. The Bison Varsity enjoyed a fine season--winning twenty-three games while losing only five in regular season play. Included was a third straight Skyline Conference title with a 9-1 record. Seniors TO BE fondly remembered are Dick Wilkins, Mike Kirksey, Jim Sharp, Harold Deck, and Dick Foster. Returning lettermen to carry on the Bison traditions of the school are Jerry Kirksey, Bill Moulder, Jack Shewmaker, Roger Wilkins, and H. G. Barber. Our B Squad finished the season with a 15-3 record against B team competition. It looks like a group that will be able to help carry on the traditions of fine records and sportsmanship next year and the year to come. Members of this squad include Beck, Hart, D. Haw- kins, Gregg, McKenzie, Eisman, Blair, Beckner, G. Bradley, Wilson, Blades, and Propeck. The Junior High Basketball team has a 7-2 record for the year. They won second place in the Lebanon Junior High Invitational tour- nament. Promising members of this year's freshman squad include van Buskirk, Roush, Hagan, Rea, L. Hawkins, Baker, Owens, Mc- Daniel, Stafford, and Palmer. The Bisonnettes enjoyed success in one activity but were unable to hit a winning stride in another. They were undefeated in softball competition winning 8 and losing 0. They won first place in the Buf- falo Invitational Tournament. Their record in volleyball is 1 victory and 4 losses. They are playing in the consolation finals of the Stout- land Invitational Tournament as this goes to press. Disregarding our fine won and lost record, we must add that the behavior of our community and school towards our opponents and of- ficials has been excellent. We must attempt in our interschool activ- ities to encourage respect for authority, co-operation, determination, fair play, and good sportsmanship. Let us continue with the fine rec- ord that the Buffalo School and Community have established. Hats off to a splendid group of boys and girls who have competed this year! Many thanks to our many sincere fans. 67 Frank Glenn Just returned from a 30,000 - mile trip around the world - his 39th cross- ing of the Atlantic. Our gratitude to Mr. Frank Glenn, World traveler, author, Lec- turer and Publisher of Kansas City. Mr. Glenn's contribution to our school in library books, fine art, and rare documents are enjoyed and appreciated beyond our expression. Mr. Glenn has shared his many experiences in world travels with our students, faculty and community in the form of pictures and lec- tures. Fortunate indeed are we that he adopted our school, so to speak, and established here a Memorial Library to his mother and all mothers. 68 KAREN HOWERTON Annual Queen 70 C. A.
