IIE 1 do rv X To --Leit to Right: Row I-Joan dipson, onna Weaver, Larry Wessels, Norma Wentworth. Row 2-Richard Wempen, Rosemary Yegge. Ho Picture--Lila VanGerpen Sophomore Activities The sophmore class is composed of forty-six students: twenty-five girls and twenty-one boys. At the beginning of the year the class elected the following as officers: President . . . . . . . .Jerry Becker Vice-President. . . . . .Darrell Albers Secretary . . . . . . . .Phillip Orthel Treasurer . . . . . . . .Bob Speicher le also elected Donna Heitland md Lila VanGerpen as cheerleaders, and Mr. Taylor and Miss Kirchman as sponsors. The sophmores were well-represented in all extra-curricular activities. We had seventeen girls in the Girls' Glee Club, six boys in the Boys' Chorus and eleven in the band. The sophmore boys were naturally attracted to basketball, football, baseball, track and girls ----- -oops, that wasn't supposed to get in there. We had quite a collection of boys out for football--ten in all. As the football season ended basketball took over the spotlight. The season ended with six sophmores still pursuing the 'ball and hoop' game. Track season started with a lot of sore mus- cles and backs which Coach Tailor says will eventually end. Track brought nine sophnore boys to the gym in eir sweat clothes. Then, too, there is baseball, which accountaibr six more sophmores with sore hands and arms. That about rounds out sports as far as the sophmores are concerned. The class elected Janice Feldick as candidate for homecoming queen at the homecoming activities last fall. Our float was a large football field decorated in purple and white for Buffalo Center and black and gold for Britt. In the mid- dle was a large kettle representing Eagle stew. The class elected Joan Brue as candidate for the 1950 Carnival Queen.
