e uTure ... to the future of Buena Vista College we dedicate the 1959 Beaver Log. Recent years have brought changes to the Buena Vista campus. Old Main is gone. Only her arch remains — a symbol of a rich heritage, a challenge for a bright future. Plans for new buildings are completed; their construction will soon be under way. The future promises much for Buena Vista College. ... to the future Victory Arch. Approaching the campus from the southeast a future visitor to Buena Vista College will look through the old to the new. Through the recon- structed arch of Old Main he will see the new administration and classroom building. The future Victory Arch will stand in memory of the past Buena Vista College as it leads to the present. ... to the future Schaller Memorial Chapel. Through the Victory Arch the future vis- itor will see the center of religious life on campus, the beautiful Schaller Memorial Chapel. This year the chapel addition to the administration building took a large step toward reality with the generous gift by George J. Schaller. The religious experiences of every Buena Vista student will be heightened by this future addition to the college campus. ... to the future library building. The visitor of the future will see the new library building, an addition to the educational life of the Buena Vista student. This building and its facilities will broaden the horizons of all students who enter its doors of learning. ... to the future of Education for Service in the future halls of Buena Vista College, we dedicate the 1959 Beaver Log. 1 .

CI i M, Dear Seniors: An academic degree is popularly regarded as a hallmark of education. In a certain sense this is so, but it remains so only when the degree holder takes his responsibilities seriously. I would charge each of you (1) to hold aloft a noble purpose and sound values; (2) to have an appreciation of the beautiful; (3) to maintain an enduring belief in freedom of the mind and spirit; (4) to be a doer as well as a thinker; (5) to consider education as having no terminal point; (6i to live every moment of your life To the glory of God and the welfare of mankind.
