His name is Chung Choon Ki, and h is now ci young man of fifteen. Chung Choo Ki lives in a Pusan orphanage. His parents died within a mo th of each other in the early years of The war. After the ragedy of losing both parents Choon Ki began a life of ndering from place To place. Young as he was, he had an 'dea he should go To Seoul and he set out, all alone, To get There. ln the chaos brought about by the war The child was unnoticed among the swarms of refugees filling the roads, nd he survived by a miracle, begging a handful of food w rever he could. For Two years he lived This way until he fin ly arrived in Pusan, having traveled on foot all of the way. Through Foster Parents Plan, nc., Buena Vista college became his foster parents. He corre onds regularly with us and intends to enter a theological s ool when he finishes his high school education. Although we have never seen you, Chung Choon Ki, this is how we picture you. You were new freshmen, l was new to the presidency. We have had four fine years of working, play- ing, and praying together. We have had many mountain top experiences and have shared some sadness. All in all they have been four wonderful years years which I shall never forget. May God be with you as you go forth into His vineyard to labor. May you continue to grow in mind and spirit and may your Alma Mater, with your help and His, con- tinue To serve. AFFectionately, e,Q,,,a.2S,g.,Q...,L, John A. Coach Dean Laun's Beavers defeated three conference foes and were one of the two teams who defeated favored Upper Iowa. The Beavers scored in every contest and were never completely outclassed although they did lose a pair of games by two touch- down margins. The Campus Carnival was held in the center of the campus on May 7, l9.58. It was an all student proiect aimed at raising money for a victory arch to be constructed from the stone arch of Old Main, which was destroyed by fire. lt is hoped that the victory arch, occu- pied by a bell, will be the center of many traditional ceremonies. The night before the carnival an outdoor Variety Show was held at which Mrs. Jay Beekmann and Dr. Grate were crowned queen and king. Several stu- dents presented comedy acts and sing- ing, but the highlight was a skit representing the faculty and starring Prof. Siegfried and Dr. Grate. Despite rain on the scheduled day, the carnival took place, with each or- ganization sponsoring a booth, and ap- proximately S23O was raised for the victory arch. - we RIGHT: The Men's Dorm had a car wash and found that some college men drive pretty fancy cars! These footsteps in the snow are symbolic of the path you made at Buena Vista College this year. You walked here many times maybe with your best girl toward the lights of Swope Hall at 10:29 p.m., maybe to your physical education class at the gym, or to a game at Victory Hall, maybe to Beaver Hall for a cup of coffee or to Fracker Library to study or maybe even to the lake. V , Wherever you were going, we have attempted to capture in pictures your path during 1957-58. We have tried to show your thrills and disappointments, your triumphs and let-downs, your victories and defeats. In years to come may you never forget all those special memories that are yours alone . . . but all a part of your year at Buena Vista. ' Editor, 'I958 Beaver Log
