After the tire Fire Destroys Old Main Sixty-four-year Old Main, oldest building on the Buena Vista college campus and one ot Storm Lake's landmarks, died a flaming but maiestic death September 27, l956. Even before the Storm Lake tire trucks rushed to the scene, college students were hurrying in and out of the building to rescue records and equipment. All of the college's business record as well as those of the registrar were saved by college students who finished while the upper story was wrapped in flames. The last ot the records were recovered shortly before the root colldpsed. The blaze, which started in the cupola of the three-story brick structure about lO:3O p.m., burned furiously throughout the night and by 8 a.m. Friday only the tour walls of the building remained standing. Old Main housed the college's administrative oFiices, the music department and speech, sociology, history, government, and dramatics classrooms as well as the Buena Vista College Little Theater. 15
