l L N E., r' 'I' - I -A BUENA VISTA HIGH SCHOOL 3945 HOLLAND SAGINAW, MICHIGAN 1963-1964 i 3.01. ,, -v FA 5 'v ,.1 5 Foreword Monty Mischief entered Buena Vista High School in September, 1963. He stayed for one year and then he left. His was a short stay. Yet during his visit he became acquainted with out school, our students and our atmosphere. Monty was not content with daily classroom attendance. He snooped! He brushed away the cobwebs of the bored student in English and found a young person vitally interested in one or two subjects such as home economics or industrial arts, He pried into the life of another and found an active Knight par- ticipating in clubs, sports and still keeping his grades at top level. Monty wedged himself under the pop machine in the teacher's lounge and there, too, found people of different sizes, shapes and temperaments working to keep Buena Vista High School alive, alert and conscious of the daily need for the student to learn and the teacher to teach. Monty Mischief left our school in June, 1964, with the impressions you will share in the 1964 VISTA VISIONS. Each page, each picture will bring to you the memories of a school dedicated to the educational, social and physical development of its students. 1 2 1 , Monty Mischief Classes . . . . . 5 Administration ..... Congratulations We've finally found that we're a family . . . the Buena Vista High School students not only kept up their studies, worked in extra curricular activities, andboosted all Knights to victory but they also learned to work around construc- tion workers. This year, 1963-1964, was a busy one. Two large classrooms were built. The old '79 was turned into four small class- rooms and offices for the coun- seling department and teachers were built. Through the hammering, the painting, the nauseating smell of the roof being tarred and the inconvenience of th e building heating system being repaired, students went daily from class to class without complaint. We commend BVHS students for patience and co-operation. ,,, t The milkman comes. Q ' Our favorite cooks begin lunch preparations. If you're down in shop, young men will be working in drafting or with various pieces of machinery. In the home economics room yoimg women will be making cakes, laying patterns or learning how to be future homemakers. In the commercial rooms students are learning to type, to take dictation, and to keep an accurate set of records. The band members are tuning up their instruments and choir members are beginning to hum in tune with the pitch pipe. The hall monitors are on duty. The office staff is alert to tardy students. Mr. Blue and Mr. Blenkhorn are wan- dering the halls to be sure that Buena Vista High School is running smoothly. The library is open and at various times teeming with students doing re- search work or nosing around for new reading material. A few students with hall passes stop to admire case dis- plays and then continue to their desti- nations. They may have anappointment with Mrs. Thering or Mr. Pelkki, counselors, to discuss problems or future job opportunities. They may be seeking a teacher for extra help in classwork. The student's trek to a corner room will bring results. This is their school and they keep it well, use facilities freely and benefit from it in their effort to learn. Mrs. McMu11in helps Jim Boyd with business problem. Typing skills will help these students do home assignments. Basic experiments prove fascinating for curious Alligators seem to be much in demand in room 83. K , vi . , L, e, , i 3 '44-an students. Right: Gerlach Fronemann in Latin garb. Mr. Pelkki and Mrs. Thering help students with vocational and guidance problems. K I Buena Vista students enjoy open dances in the gym after basketball games.
