Leaders Add Color, Style The 1980 Leadership class added much color and excitement to the events and activities of the school year. Ever- ything from the opening day assembly to the nominating convention was done with a style that added just that little extra to the event. Among many of the class ' accomplish- ments were the reinstatement of Pep Week, passing the activity card quota, and organizing the first CIF pep assem- bly at BP. Open meetings were held each Wednesday, which served as an impor- tant forum for studying student input. The Leadership class achieved many of its goals and left the school in a way which allows each student to say with much pride that he goes to BP.

Chess Team Captures Second This year BP boasted one of the most talented chess teams in years. The guidance of Mr. Stanley Tinkle combined with the brilliant play of indi- vidual members helped the team place second in Orange County. Talented strategists such as Senior Bill Hebert, Sophomores Andrew Kuli- kauskus and Ed Motley as well as Freshmen Joe Hanley, Dave Duncan and David Henderson excelled at this game which requires foresight and quick mental reflexes. The chess team compiled a record of six wins and one loss during its two- month long competition. The team ' s top members also placed well in the Western Scholastic Chess Invitationals. American Open, and the National Chess Day Tournament. Said proud Advisor Mr. Tinkle, This is one of the best teams we ' ve had in years. 1 think it ' s the start of at least four good years.
