FD. va. li Q ff' H4 r Mrs. Killeen, a three-year member of our faculty, works with Journalism and Publications classes THE l96O yearbook staff of Buena Park High School proudly dedicates this Los Coyotes Annual to Mrs. Catherine Killeen, whose support and encouragement have made possible our annuals since l958. She has been of vital importance to our campus, teaching English, journalism, and publications here for three years. Be- sides co-ordinating yearbook activity, part of Mrs. Killee-n's time is spent in supervising editions of our school paper, Paw Prints. Before coming to our campus, Mrs. Killeen taught arts and crafts at Western Junior High. Although she prefers teaching iournalism to teaching arts and crafts, she spends many enioyable moments working with arts and crafts as a hobby. Prior to her teaching career, she lived in Wyoming where she attended the University of Wyoming. She and her husband, John A, Killeen, who is a Vice Principal at Bellflower High, have been happily married since l945. Not being superstitious, they were married on a Friday, the thirteenth. P Those who have had Mrs. Killeen for a teacher know that she is interested in the student as well as the subiect. Thank-you, Mrs. Killeen for being so vitally interested in school activities, and for making this annual possible. ' i'?1 oi kd. lb P X C, J 1 my . Sllllllll CLHSS THOSE SENIORS graduating this June have been the first grad- uating class in the history of Buena Park High School to senle the school in many ways through the entire four years of high school. Taking over the fine duties and work of Kenny Acton, last year's senior class president, was Leon Cheney, who also did a fine job carrying out the many duties of his office. Assisting the presi- dent were three well qualified seniors, Larry Benedict, vice- president, Diane Froslie, secretary, and Bill Albrecht, treasurer. The senior class sold pennants at the football games to help raise money for its various proiects and events such as the prom held in May, and the senior class gift. They also sponsored serf day which helped build the treasury and also proved to be very successful with the entire student body. The graduating class of 1960 will always have fond memories of having been a part of the development and growth of Buena Park High School. I! A knife in the back persuades advisor Mr. Rios to conform with the ideas of the ICC members. Going to such lengths is not really necessary, however, for cooperation and democracy are paramount in this group. 11 I-:fill I fl I1 - W I, T? iii I DURING THIS PAST YEAR at Buena Park the Inter- Club Council has strived to promote better co-oper- ation and understanding among all of the campus organizations. ICC is composed of all the presidents of the various campus clubs. The presidents meet together to dis- cuss problems they may be having, and often work together on special proiects. John Hinds, a very capable student, was chosen to serve as president. Rito Rios was the advisor. Work- ing together they have done an exceptionally fine iob in leading the group. The ICC members have done much to make the various clubs a vital and active part of our school. tee, A si 1 9 l X - 'v T X Z 4 4 ' I I 'V' Wife' -- g ' Mr! , I 5 ' 6 . 1 ,Q4+' g, - R: is 1 . This organ- ization's main purpose is to promote high ideals, closer friendships, and better understanding between girls of different races and different creeds. Girls will become acquainted with one another, having fun and working together in the various iobs that they perform and different functions that they sponsor throughout the year. At the beginning of the year, the Girls' League, the faculty, and their members, presented a Big and Little Sister Party, in which the freshman girls get a chance to become acquainted with the other girls. They also organized such things as, the Mother and Daughter Tea, Red Cross Drive, Valentine's Girl Date Dance, Father and Daughter Banquet, plus sponsoring those delicious fudge and cupcake sales at the break and at noon. ' Main proiect ot the club this year was to co-sponsor the first Homecoming Dance in the history of our school. The Lettermen hope to make this dance an annual event. Purpose of the club is to help promote more spirit among players and students. Before school started in September the Lettermen gave a beach party for the purpose ot getting acquainted with the new boys that would be taking part in the various sports forthe current year. Coach Thomas Tellez and President Jan Underwood worked together to plan the activities of the club this year. Helping Jan with his numerous duties were: Phil Staggs, vice-president, Mike DeLuca, sec- retary, Jerry Kelly, treasurer, and John Godden, sergeant at arms. A DANCING in a truly Oriental Dream was Queen Susan and her escort, Jim Carder. This Oriental Dream was made possible through the work of the Future Business Leaders of America, by its members, and sponsor, William J. Claffey. Furnishing the music for three hours of fun and enchantment, were the Aristocrates from Fuller- ton. Their music was enioyed by everyone at- tending the dance. The theme was carried out on the refreshment table by a cake, shaped like an oriental house, used as a centerpiece. Refreshments consisted of cake and punch. The Future Business Leaders of America restricted the contest to senior girls only. The other con- testants were Marie Montgomery, Pat Villafana, JoAnn LeClaire, Terry Schwartz, Earlene Pack, and Janice Morrison. CHOSEN from among the many candidates for the Christmas Queen, was lovely Susan Heine- mann. Along with her friendly smile, Susan wore a beautiful pink lace formal and received a dozen roses. Our Queen attended grammar school in Buena Park and then went on to high school in Orange and Western, returning to Buena Park this year. Susan's future plans are to further her education in the field of business at Fullerton Junior College. Susan's special interest is social dancing. Her charming personality traits and a warm and friendly smile have won her many new friends at Buena Park High School. They entered the C.l.F. finals by winning place in the Freeway League with a perfect record of ten wins and no losses. By going undefeated in league play, the Coyotes increased their winning streak to twenty-two games in a row. For the Coyotes, winning the Free- way League title forthe second con- secutive year meant more than lust playing in the C.l.F. finals, it was the well deserved grand climax for a team that, despite being one of the smallest in the league, won be- cause of constant team effort and cooperation. Leading player of this year's team was center John Fernandez, who was named the Freeway Lea g u e Player of the year and also the highest honor a player can have, that of being named on the All- C.l.F. first team. Other team mem- bers honored were Jerry Kelley and John Wright who were named on the Freeway League first team. Top row, left to right: Coach Scott Malich, B. Moore, R. Showalter, T, Seabold, J.
