The National Honor Society is composed of students selected by a represent- ative faculty committee from among those members of the sophomore, junior, and senior classes who maintained a B average during the semester preceeding their election. Other prerequisites for membership, besides scholarship, include character, leadership, and service. The Society aims at the promotion of these four qualities throughout the stu- dent body, and the maintenance of these high standards within its own ranks. Thus membership in the Society is not only an honor but a responsibility. Organization of the National Honor Society at Buena in 1959 was brought about largely through the efforts of the eight charter members, mostof whom were inducted into the Society at Tombstone. Although more than half ofthe original members have now graduated, two inductions greatly increased the membership to its present twenty-seven. N.Jf..S1 Judzzctiau to R: G. Merrick: P. Macqueeng G. The Student Council is the executive body that presents the students with the opportunity of making decisions that affect themselves. They outline cheer ses- sions, help with assembly programs. and assist Mr. Calvert and Mr. Cantrell in thepgeneral welfare of students to make Buena a better place to go to school. The members are elected by each class to serve as its representative. The Student Council is an organization of a school's student body, represented by elected delegates to a limited body whose duty it is to reflect student opinion, accept responsibilities for the student body, and contribute to and participate in the educational program. This year the student Council members have been very active in school func - tions. They not only sponsored the Lumberjack Bank, but paid for the cheer- leaders sweaters by selling their famous doughnuts and Buena sweatshirts. The Student body is very grateful for the efficient manner in which the council has helped to smooth out the bumps in the road, making it easier for everyone to do his level best. x xy- L .m.. M .
