Yvonne Rig 'f 5 Adwoh Le' 'fi -gaomvson' BCXS .2 Trerlffnei' X In September, 1955, when we entered the ground floor of the senior high, we were awed by those people called seniors. The officers we chose to lead us through our first year as senior high school students were as follows: Dave Katterhenrich, Mary Kay Schneider, Bonnie Burwell, and Bob Clady. With the help of our capable advisor, Mrs. Millar, we had a very successful year. In our sophomore year we chose our class rings and had our first formal affair, which was well-planned by our officers: Sue Guillerey, Bob Clady, jean DeVol, Bonnie Burwell, and our helpful advisor, Mrs. Ward. The juniors very graciously gave us permission to use the decora- tions from the reception in exchange for the ser- vices of a few of the sophomore girls as wait- resses at the dinner preceding the dance. The theme was Fantasia, and the decorations were truly lovely. We had a wonderful time and eager- ly looked forward to our junior year, The junior-Senior Reception Year was with swim' n09 We s MC 'D nt Chaim S fx Y . 6 eu ecretary Stix Vue-Pres .In , us! The long-planned-for event was a wonderful success under the guidance of our advisor, Mr. Stewart, and our capable class officers. Dave Katterhenrich, Mary Kay Schneider, Bill Elder and Pat Esterline. Our theme, 'Sayonara, left a lasting impression on all of us. The long-awaited year is here. We are now the seniors, We chose Sandy McKinnon, Vonnie Pirnstill, Jan Blodgett, and Chuck Hawkins as our class officers. We think we have lived up to our class motto: Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm. We have worked hard to earn money for the senior gift. The stu- dent council helped by very generously lending us their popcorn machine. Our class colors are blue and white, and our class flower is the rose. As we donned our caps and gowns and marched across the stage to the strains of Pomp and Circumstancej' we realized that this was truly a commencement - another milestone of life, passed. As a result of ideal weather, this netted us a very good profit. We also sold coke and potato chips at the basketball games. One of the big events was the arrival of the long awaited class rings. Work was started at the beginning of the year on the Junior-Senior Recep- tion, the most exciting event of the year. As the school year came to a close and the jobs were all completed, we then began preparing for the task of being seniors- 46 2 , M ,T A e Q V, V, 'Q wif? The Bucyrus Redmen this season enjoyed their most suc- cessful year since 1948 and were the second best in B.H.S. history. Whereas in the year before inexperience was preva- lent throughout, this year there were no excuses offered, or necessary, as the Redmen chalked up a 7 - 2 overall record while going 6-1 in league , games. With the fine record of the Redmen came attendance figures which surpassed all those of past years. The Redmen had one of the best, if not the best, offenses in the area this year. Time and time again, Coach Paul Keltner's swift fleet of backs, behind picturesque blocking, made shambles of opposing defenses. Although teamwork was the secret of their success this year, four players received outstanding recognition. Bob Clady, Tom Crokie, jim Gistle, and Dave Katter- henrich were named to the All N.O.L. team. Katt be- came the first Bucyms player to ever be placed on a first- team All-Ohio selection. Dave was selected on every such team picked. The Redmen put out much sweat and blood this season and even though they didn't capture the N.O.L. championship, we all believe they were the number one team. I958 B.H. . FCDOTB LL BUCYRUS 8 - GAHANNA 8 A turnout of over a thousand was present as Bucyrus played Gahanna to a tie in the first preview ever to be played here. The game appeared to be wrapped up with Gahanna holding an 8-O edge until Dave Katterhenrich rambled up the center for 87 yards in the winning min- utes. He then added the two-point conversion to tie the game and decide the final score. BUCYRUS 12 - TIFFIN CALVERT 13 The lack of sure footing and, worse, the lack of sure hands sent B.H.S. down to a 13 -12 defeat at the hands of Tiffin Calvert. The Redmen led at the half by a 12 - 0 score but fumbled the game away in the second half. A Crokie-Clady pitchout resulting in a touchdown was nul- lified by an offside penalty. Nealley and Katt scored the B.H.S. touchdowns. BUCY RUS 14 - WILLARD 0 Bucyrus completely dominated play as they ripped the Flashes of Willard to the tune of a 14-0 victory in the N.O.L. league opener. Katt scored both touchdowns and played a fine all-around game. The entire defensive unit played a fine game with standout performances from Winkelfoos, McCallister, Hargis, and Gistle. The Redmen were spurred on to victory by an enthusiatic crowd of over 3,000 at the Lane St. Field. This page features ten girls to whom a great deal of credit and gratitude is due. These girls led the student body during pep assemblies and all the games. It was through them that a great deal of school spirit was brought forth in victory, and, perhaps even more important, in de- feat. We take our hats off to these fine bundles of enthusiasm who brought us so much.
