History f School This year there are thirty-six teachers employed for grades seven through twelve, teaching some eight hundred and seventy-five students. The library has a collection of approximately three thousand books with a monthly circulation averaging 900. Engaged in the choral and instrumental music program there are approximately six hundred students. The school has a very active extracurricular club program with about twenty-five clubs participating. This year the Pep Club was organized for the 'supporters of the athletic teams. In 1955 the voters of Bucyrus approved a bond issue in the amount of one million six hundred fifty thousand dollars to be used for the construction of two new grade schools and additions to the other four schools. Histor Of School The Bucyrus City School System was established in 1824 when a law was passed providing for the funds to support a public educational system. Classes met in school buildings in various locations over the years until 1850, when a new building was built on the present school site, a little to the west of the high school building. This build- ing served as the central elementary and high school until 1920 when a bond issue was passed providing for approximately one million dollars to be used to construct a new three story brick structure on the ground then occupied by the old Union building. The building provided for in the bond issue is our present high school. The plans provided for forty-eight classrooms, a one thousand seat auditorium with an adjacent gymnasium and a cafeteria. The cafeteria has not been used for many years and is now used by the band. The building was dedicated in 1922 although the bonds were just recently paid off in 1954. My The second floor, main hall. In Memoriam Phil Yuhas Richard Cluff lt matter: not bow they died, but bow they lived. The Senior Class was saddened this year by the loss of two of our classmates, Phillip Yuhas and Richard Cluff. Phil died in an auto accident on October 26, 1956. His smile and gay chuckle will always be remembered by his classmates. Rich died on November 26, 1956, after a long illness. The memory of his quiet manner and friendliness will never be forgotten. Although they have gone before us, the memories of these two boys will live in our hearts always. The Class of 1957 6
