S4 'D e 6 dd af 7752 V, Senior CLASS Officers JAMES WURM, President KAREN PHILLIPS, Secretary SUSIE JONES, Vice-President BILL FAWLEY, Treasurer RICHARD FRANTZ, Advisor SENIOR CLASS HISTORY Glancing backward Through the years, we well recall how awed and confused we were, when, as seventh graders, we first entered Bucyrus High. Our teachers and upper classmates were most friendly and cooperative, however, and it was no time at all until we considered ourselves, and were considered, an essential part of the entire school. As we entered the eighth grade, there were many new opportunities for recognition and friend- ship awaiting us . . . and didn't the girls really think they were somebody when they took the boys to the biggest social event of our year - the Blue Triangle Friendship Dance. As Freshmen, we took our first step toward planning our futures by choosing one of the four courses available to us. The outstanding event of this year was our attendance at the F. H. A. Christmas dance. At the beginning of our Sophomore year we elected the following class officers: Bob Tucker, president, Ann Albright, vice-president, Norman Haldeman, secretary and Sally Stamer, treasurer. Mr. Frantz was our capable adviser. From the profits obtained through sponsoring a movie, during the year, we were able to enjoy a very successful Sophomore Prom. Upon reaching our Junior year, Don Widman became class president, with Jody Craner as vice-president, Nancy Eickel as secretary and Bob Darling as treasurer, assisted by Louie Light. A never-to-be-forgotten event of that year was our Junior-Senior Reception. This, our Senior year has been a very busy and interesting one, with our classwork, scholar- ship tests, sports events, club activities and social functions all, seemingly, competing for our time. Ably guiding us throughout the year, have been our president, Jim Wurm, vice-president, Susie Jones, secretary, Karen Phillips, treasurer, Bill Fawley, and our faithful adviser, Mr. Frantz. As we go eagerly forward to meet life's responsibilities - college, iobs, marriage - we shall always hold in our hearts the wonderful memories of school days at Bucyrus High. Norwalk's Truckers, the following week, spoiled our home-opener by trimming the locals 20-O. Bucyrus scored its first victory the next week when they triumphed over Willard's Crimson Flashes l9-l2. On October 5--Shelby's speedy Whippets ran roughshod over B.H.S. scoring six touchdowns to our one, and thus giving the Kingsmen their worst beating of the season 39 to 7. The heavily-favored Galion Tigers clawed their way to a i9-7 victory, the following week, before a large Dad's night crowd at Lane Field. Victory number two for the Redmen was collected on October l8th at the expense of Crestline's scrappy Bulldogs. The locals had to come from behind, in this one, scoring the winning touchdown in the final minutes of a i6-i2 game. Upper Sandusky's Rams took some of the ioy out of an otherwise wonderful Homecoming celebration by outscoring a game Bucyrian crew i8-6. Miss Pat Rowland, Homecoming Queen, and her lovely court reigned over the game and dance festivities. On a snow-covered field in sub-zero weather, Bellevues' braves defeated a valiant Bucyrian band of warriors in the battle of the Redmenn on Nov. 2nd. The final score was Bellevue 26-Bucyrus 6. Finishing the season with an amazing display of latent power, the Bucyrus Redmen trounced the Mansfield Madison Rams 27-l2. This victory was the third in nine encounters and marked the best scoring performance of the season for Coach King's hard fighting gridmen. Captain Herb Jones was voted the most valuable player of the year by his teammates and was also awarded the coveted Michael Football Trophy for l95l-52. 57 Wawdlq 'gcwietiafl game! FIRST ROW: D. The curtain has fallen on another dramatic performance of the Bucyrian Staff and this year's cast of players proved to be of Shakespearean quality. There may have been better school papers edited in former years, but it is doubtful if any staff has had more enjoyment from working together. Production of a big eight-page Christmas edition, an informative talk by a local newspaper- man, and participation in refreshments by the whole staff on several occasions, were just a few of this year's highlights. The staff also sold soft drinks at all home basketball games to alleviate treasury deficiencies. Under the capable guidance of Miss Ella Meck, editorial advisor and Miss Gloria Cavallo, business advisor, the Bucyrian has recorded another successful year in the pages of its history. ddladal mu! The Student Council experienced a successful year under the able leadership of our officers: Herb Jones, president, Joan Thiel, secretary, and Doris Downing, treasurer and our competent faculty advisers: Miss Kenney, Miss Thompson and Mr. Loman. Perhaps our most noteworthy accomplishment was our supervision of the school-wide magazine drive that contributed greatly to the furtherence of the school's visual education program. In addition we conducted a successful safety campaign, sold popcorn at all home basketball games, revised and rewrote a council constitution, supervised the arrangements for Homecoming, decorated the halls and corridors at Christmas, and helped choose the assembly programs to be presented in I952-53. 70 a ZZQ6 65:45 LEFT TO RIGHT - FIRST ROW: S.
