IVI C S Girl s Basketball Team have been receiving congratulations on the remarkably successful season of sport re cently completed With but three defeats against their record an dtwo of these 1I'lHlCt ed at the hands of Hampden Academy which has unquestionably one of the strong est girl s aggregations in IVIa1ne the players have a justifiable pride in their achieve ments Under the immediate supervision f MISS Loy Page former Orono High and University of Maine player assisted by IVIr conscientious practice was carried on and a team developed which has shown a type of play far superior to that of recent years The teamwork of Captain Marlon Dun bar and Alice Leach forwards together with Alleyne Eldridge center has been ex ceptional in its effectiveness and the accur acy of their shooting has ln Iarge part been responsible for the teams success Ru by Snowman and Mary Newcomb as guards played a strong defensive game extremely difficult for their opponents to penetrate and were able to conslstently break up any offensive play in their territory The season opened at Hampden where we suffered our first defeat the score bemg 54 I4 Higgins Classical Institute then vis visited E IVI C S but were unable to match the superior game of the Seminary girls and were defeated ZI I3 Maine Institute was easily taken into camp on their own floor bemg badly outclassed with a score of 29 9 The Brewer H S girls then invaded Buck sport but they too suffered an overwhelm mg defeat at no time threatening to change the final score which was 54 I2 In the Castme Normal School match the Seminary could not quite equal the play of the Nor ence counted heavily ln their favor and were defeated after a determined struggle 31 II A return game was played with Brewer H S at Brewer but once again the Seminary came through an easy victory 31 II The closest and best game of the season was when Hampden Academy play ed at Bucksport ln the final game of the season Two teams evenly matched and playing whirlwind basketball the final out come bemg always ln doubt when the con cluslon found the Academy girls leading by two baskets and succeeding in defeating the Seminary 25 ZI The total score for the season was E H CS ISI opponents I55 u .
