DEDICATION To a man whose efforts and patience are unfailing and whose conquests are unsung, we proclaim the greatness that service and unselfish devotion deserve. A Bucknell graduate and veteran of World War I, he tried to join his five sons in the present war but was refused army service. Instead, he has remained a part of us at Bucknell, continuing to fulfill his duties to school and community. With respect and appre- ciation we dedicate this 1945 L ' Agenda to bacteriologist and citizen of consequence — JOHN WINTER RICE.

' ■ ■ • • Stlammma Ma Bmaa ft 1 B In a war year of desperate sacrifice and climactic victories, no day has passed without some reminder that the farthest spots on the globe are not now remote from Bucknell. Armed men in combat and statesmen who pencil terms of peace are the com- panions of our thought as surely as are professors and fellow students. Thus, we live while we are learning to live; we suffer and rejoice and hope in a sphere far larger than the immediate present. That is as it should be. There can be no regrets. For the challenge of a college campus in war time we are honestly grateful; for the heritage of peaceful living which is Bucknell we hold lasting affection. Against these backgrounds we cast our shadows ■
