Preface. It may be a matter of surprise to many, as it is to us, that the Class of ' 93 should deliberately and mercilessly set to work to revive the college annual. Several reasons fordoing this suggested them- selves, aside from the thought of becoming famous. On examining the existing college publications, we came to the conclusion that a publication like this is needed. The Mirror, to be sure, is, to a great extent, representative. However, we are not all and not always engaged in showing that Shakespeare, on the whole, wrote pretty good poetry, or like pursuits. There are many sides to our college life besides the famous exploits of our min- isterials. The catalogue serves its purpose well. People, how- ever, are very suspicious of catalogues. A publication like the L ' Agenda they approach with entire confidence. They trust it, though it destroy them. They make it the confidant of their inmost thoughts. They fear it, yet are charmed by it. See him as, with passionate eagerness, he seizes the volume ! See the tear trickling down his cheek as he gazes upon the pathetic engravings ! How his laugh rings out, perhaps to the end, or perhaps, as he turns a page, giving way to muttered curses ! He will close the volume with a broad smile or a sickly grin. It will become a bright dream to him or a horrible nightmare. He cannot escape it. Those who are interested in it will weep tears of joy over it, caress and fondle it as
