Our I-lerrtaqe From pxecedrng classes we have rnherrted many symbols eere monrals, and Ideals whxch we accept as a matter of course because they have become as much a part of B H S as lts walls, desks and books Little do we realize the thought effort and persrstency that has been put forth by former students teachers and men who have erved upon the board of educatron to brrng our school to rts present state of bemg The flrst four year class was graduated rn 1915 How proud those senlors were Happy to know that they, lrvlng rn a small town had the chance for a complete hrgh school educatron as dxd then frlends rn the cltres The game of basketball began in Bucklrn rn 1914 although there were no matcled games untrl 1915 The fnst matched game was played with Mendon In order to make the evenmg more enjoyable a par ty was gn en after the game When the return game was played Vlrs I'mma Hunolt gave the players a party Bucklm became a fllSt class school rn 1916 The senrors of 1916 were the frrst to have class rmgs The rrngs were yellow gold with 4 preture of the school burldxr g upon them In 1918 the students began to make remarks aboutt the beautrful maples rn the school yard These remarks led to the composrng of the song Where the Red and Black Is Floatrng and some of the other school song, graduates They thrnk of then' rmtlatlon, and the 111911101108 of the horrxble planks the sophomores played upon them come to therr mlnds Several of them have sald that they have never expcrqenced anything wor se rnce graduatlon than they drd when they trled to eat a green persrn mon cover ed wrth chocolate syrup In 1919 the frrst JUH101 senxor banquet was held rn the basement of the Methodxst Church The class of 1920 adopted the school colors red and black and the American beauty lose for the school flower They were also the frrst graduatrng cla s to wear caps and gowns The frrst alumm banquet was held May 20 1927 A bulldog rs noted for lllb Cl8tE.1D1lIldLl0l'l to urn In 1928 wrth a squad of boys gomg out for ba ketball and most of them srx feet tall rt rs no wonder that they would choose the bulldog as then symbol There are many trorhles rn the cases to prove that the Bulldogs were the eonquerors many trmes btudents begm to feel lazy m the latter part of Apr rl The Sen lors of 28 29 pondered over the srtuatron many hours and decrded to buy a clock so that the students mrght watch the mlmutes go slow ly on toward the day of therr graduatron The study hall clock was the flrst class grft In 1930 the present hrgh school burldmg was constructed there by provrdlng more cla s rooms a room for a lrbrary and an auldrto rrum - I . . .
