We were treated as inferiors until the day of our initiation, September l7, when we were initiated by the mighty seniors to become full-fledged members of this high school. Under the leadership of Carole Gehle, class president, Nor- ma Weber, vice-president, Gwen Winterstein, secretary-treasurer, and Mr. C. L. Norton, sponsor, our freshmen year was quite prosperous. Most of our income came from the queen contest at the Halloween Festival, where our candidate, Glenda Eyre, placed second. Our first class function consisted of a return party for the seniors. In the fall of 1949, our class again entered the portals of BCHS, not as frightened freshmen, but as saucy sophomores. However, we were minus two members, Ardene Dippel and Allan Crawford. One vacancy was filled by a newcomer, john Martin. Class officers for the year were: Maurice Seggebruch, president, Marian Blanck, vice-president, Gwen Winterstein, secretary-treasurer. We held two class parties that year. The first one was a farewell party for the seniors, the other, a weiner roast for the class members and sponsor, Miss De Luka. As juniors, we came back to school with the hopes of a successful prom. All our efforts went for that purpose. At the Halloween Festival, we conducted a profitable food stand. We also sold candy and pop at basketball games to make money for the coming event. However, our class play Mamas Baby Boyn was our largest source of income. Plans for the prom and banquet began soon after the opening of school. After much deliberation, the Dutch theme was selected. The outstanding high- light consisted of a large Dutch windmill, where the punch was served. Lyle Mitchell furnished music for the occasion. ln our estimation, the banquet and Senior Class History fContim4edl prom were very successful. We received much help from our sponsor, Miss jean Sullivan, and our class officers were: Norma Weber, presidentg Carole Gehle, vice-president, and Ruth Janssen, secretary-treasurer. Wfhen we returned to school August 30, 1951, as Seniors, we realized that this would be our last year in BCHS. Our Senior class consisted of sixteen mem- bers, since Allan Crawford and' Peggy Hughes joined us' this year. Mrs. Hike and Mr. Yates were our class sponsors. Our class officers were: HillfWeisenf barn, president, Ruth Lustfeldt, vice-president, and Ruth Janssen, secretary- treasurer. At the Halloween Festival, we conducted the cake ralfles to make money for the Senior trip. Plans are now being made for a class play robe given on April 18, and for the Senior trip to Chicago from May 30 to June 1. We are also looking forward to the big day, our graduation on May 23, 1952, with hope and sadness-hope for a bright future and sadness that we will no longer be together as a class. We are proud of our high school records in sports, music, and organization memberships. We hope that we will remain as a memory in the high school--just as the memory of our high school will remain with us. Last Will And Testament of the Senior Class We, the Seniors, of the city of Buckley, county of Iroquois, and state of Illinois, being of sound mind and memory, do hereby make, publish, and de- clare this to be our last will and testament, hereby revoking any will or wills heretofore made by us. The Oracleis Prophecy May 17, l952 Dear Diary: It feels pretty good to be back in the old home town after being away for ten years. The time seems to have passed swiftly, and so many things have changed. As I write you, dear diary, I am back for the Buckley Alumni Banquet and Dance. You do not know what it does to one to come back to old acquain- tances and talk to them! The past ten years of my life have been eventful, but it is always good to be back in the home town. First, I saw Peggy Hughes Johnston, who came to our class in her senior year. She and john are living in Champaign, Illinois, where John is coaching the famous Fighting Illini. Peg and john have two little Indians to coach along the sidelines. Peg was voted to have the best figure in her senior year, and she still looks trim. I was shocked to see that Marian Blanck was still single. She was voted to be the class flirt and still is. She hasn't lost any of her skill in leading the men a merry chase. She still has at least three or four of them on her trail. Glenda Eyre and her husband were there also. After leaving high school, Glenda became a nurse and practiced nursing for seven years, after which she married Dr. Pain. She quit working after the new addition to the family ar- rived, a little girl named Linda Sue. I received a letter from another former classmate, Carole Gehle, telling me that she would be unable to attend the Alumni celebration. By the way, she is working as a model in an exclusive shop in Hollywood. After her graduation from high school, she married Ray Wells, and they have a modern bungalow in Sunny California. A The 0racle's Prophecy CCOntimzed1 Maurice Seggebruch quit farming with his father and went to Hollywood. He can currently be seen in Tune-up Time. I hear that he is very serious about a cute little Hollywood dame, Hot Canary. Marilyn Janssen has really gone big time. She is the private secretary of General Ridgway. A certain G. I. has his eye on her, so we hear. Those com- merce subjects she took in high school have really helped her. Gwen came down to Buckley from Chicago where she had finished 2 suc- cessful season, replacing Sonja Henie. Gwen Winterstein is known around the world as being the first person to combine ice-skating and singing. Allan Crawford has also gone to the top. He is beginning his first termas President of the United States. Girls, you still have a chance because he is not yet married. QLucky Allan.J Norma Weber has organized a National Girls' Softball Team of which she is President. I hear they are a great success. She is also married to james Decker, and they reside in New York City where he is the head of a business firm. An announcement has just been made! Lt. Commander Bill Wleisenbarn .of the American Legion, Post 363, will be guest speaker at the Legion Carnival. Bill received many medals and tributes in the last war and was named the most needed and important soldier in his division. He is also married to the former Diane Shilts of Paxton. Ruth Janssen, after graduation, went to work at Chanute Field doing Civil Service work. There she met a handsome and high-ranking air force man to whom she is now married. She is still working on the field. The Oraele's Prophecy C Continued J Mr. and Mrs. Ewald Scheiwe told me that they had received word that their daughter, Darlene, who is buyer for Marshall Field and Company, is now in Paris buying the latest designs, She, too, is married while working. Her hus- band is Jim Fox who is on assignment in the Mediterranean. Donald Hull is our Fuller Brush man. He follows the rule that Once you get the foot in the door, you're in for it, He has been very successful along this line. On the side he is selling books to women entitled, 'lHow to Get a Man and Keep Him. Selda Luhrsen went to Junior College at River Forest in the fall of 1952. After her graduation she began teaching the little kiddies at St. Johnis Lutheran School. I hear she is a wonderful teacher. John Martin was always a good agricultural student while in high school. After school, he attended the University of Illinois and became an agriculture teacher. John is married to a beautiful girl and they have six darling brats. I, Ruth Lustfeldt, immediately after graduation, joined the WAVES so that I would be able to do work similar to Marvin's. Luckily, we both happen to be on the USS Segourney and are now happily married. Well, diary, my hands are getting the writer's cramp telling you the various activities of my former schoolmates. It was a wonderful opportunity being able to see so many civilians that I knew. I am once again aboard the USS Segourney surrounded by gobs, but I am still thinking of all of my classmates. Good night, dear diary.
