Senior clasa history continued A' Z Delmar Krumwiede joined the Navy in December, 1944. In February Harold Luebchow and Donald Steinman also enlisted, but were not chlled immediately. The four senior girls in the secretarial practice cnurse took state Civil Service examinations in Kankakee on Feb- ruary 24. Fleecy Clouds and Stardust, Lover's Delight, end Flower Necter.r The table decorations were in a Maytime theme. 'Has old Luebchow served as toastmaster, and after the meal ewry- one attended the show at Paxton. I 4, s , e 1 ' bf The Junior ckfss sponsored nwildcet Willien for the ans nual junior play.. Seven of .the'boys participatedf: in basketball. and.Yvcnne-and Verde' helped lead the cheering section. The juniors had charge of thcfrcfrtshment stnndsir thc Halloween Festival. Delicious refreshments of pie, ice cream, .hot dogs, pop corn, candy, non, and coffee were en- joyed by ell., ' ' - ' ' A V On August 28, 1944, twenty-one seniors marched through the doors of Buckley High., At the first class meeting we'eb ected as class officers: Harold Iuebchow, presidcntg Robert Weppler,-vice-presidentg Yvonne Lustfeldt, secretery-treas- urerg Darlene Breckmann, historiang Rlroy Janssen, Gladys Rnnen, 'Student Council members. The student body elected Robert Weppler as president of the Student Council, and Veda Krumwiede secretaryetreasurer. Miss Wright was our sponsor. Our class motto was: Nln Ourselves Our Future'Iies.n The class colors chosen were blue and white,'and the flower the red rose. . I , f T7 -. ,The seniors initiated the freshmen by having thee boys carry pursesN and wear necklaces, and having the firls wear pigtails and large green ribbons. We s1so-in1t1secd- them by a court-trlal at the freshman initiation party. Pic and ice cream wereiserved for refreshments. ' be J Beryl Luecke and Jim Flanigan made a very intellectual horse for the seniors' contribution of entertainment at the Halloween Festival. Wilbur Gronewold acted as its trainer, and Elmer Weber was a clown. The class also raffled off two ducks and conducted a cake walk.

' - .W 4 .Toby!s the hero in a fun-for-all that mixes 'up'Fifth Columnsg military secrets, and hilarious situations. Toby hasgtakeni a job as a household servant format man who is working on chemical formulas' for the army.. Here in this house, ,Toby meets the girl for him, only she cen't .hear so well. Poor Toby's sweet talk is always being misunderstood. Then the Fifth Column tries to get Eosseseion of the chemical information, and Toby goes into, ec ion. His side-splitting chatter and highly unmilitary maneuvers .somehow manage to solve the situation in an exciting twist. The cast was ss followsz Tob --the Yankee Doodle Dandy---Elmer Weber Susye--a new maid--Yvonne Lus tfeldt Robert Rogers--an F. B. I. agent--Vernon Schumacher Horace Matthews--a government dollar-a-year men--Wilbur Gronewald Jerry Matthews--Matthew's daughter--Darlene Trsckmann Hilda--the housekeeper--Gladys Ennen Madame Beatrice La Coyne--a secret agent--Verde Krumwiede Lyle Granger--e chemist--Robert Weppler Lillian Engehausen was the main promptor, and Kenneth Singleton was the stage manager. The play was given on Friday evening April 20 in the high school gym. -A--Q 'fuuihnr---eur--1+-
