Each freshman and new teacher was given a trial and punished for some supposed crime he had committed. After refreshments were served, the rest of the evening was spent in dancing. The first freshman party was a wiener noast planned to be held in the timber, but because of constant rainy weathen it was held in the Home Economics room. - The officers of the class were: President, Loren Krumi wiede, Vice-president, Joan Martin, Secretary - Treasurer, Helen Carley, Historian, David Flanigang Student Council, Herbert Hilgendorf and Betty Landes. A Questionable Well was presented by the Juniors, and the Seniors presented an educated horse. During the intermission the. Seniors presented a cake walk. Eighteen people walked off with cakes. The Seniors also sold chances ,on two ducks. The winners of the ducks were Mildred Kemp and Lloyd Doyle.A As is usual, the Junior class sold food. After the intermission the attendance pria- es were given by Hr. Dannenfeldt., These prizes had been do- nated by the business men. Lfxer everyone finished eating, the evening was spent, in playin, basketball, volley ball, and shuffle board. . - ' ' A . i I LAST YEARS TEACHERS Lieutenant K3.g.D Earl Gehle was guest of honor at a potluck dinner Thursday evening, Dec. 7 at the high school when the board of education, faculty, students and theirpar- ents gathered at 6:60 P.M. Interesting talks were given by Mr. Dannenfeldt and Lieutenant Gehle. Robert Weppler, in behalf of the students and faculty, presented him with a silver identification bracelet, after which Lieutenant Gehle extended his gratitude and appreciation. Music during the evening was furnished by the band and the girls' ensembles. Lieutenant Gehle has finished the three months prescribed course at Harvard University. He left December 16 and re- ported to the Seventh Naval Division at Miami Beach, Florkh. He is now on communications duty in the Hawaiian Islands. Mrs. Virginia Definer, our English instructor of last year is living with her husband, in Springfield, Illinois, where he is a teacher in the Lutheran School. We had our first baseball gave at Leda on March 28, and came home victorious with a score of 15-5. Harold Sprehe and Beryl Luecke did the pitch? ing.f The hits were fairly evenly divided among the players. . f-The second game of the season was here with Onarga on April lO. This was a rather easy game with everyone on the .team getting a chance to play. The final score was.l5-4. f The next game scheduled was April 15 with Champaign. This game was canceled because of rain. On April 18, Cissna traveled to NBuckley but returned defeated by the score 9-7. Roy Krumwiede and .Harold-Oprehe did the pitching for Buckley and Kenneth Sturm for Cissna. The game was not well played due to errors on both sides. However, the team snapped out of thisy losing streak, andg'on the 29th of November, started a winning streak which was composed of l9 consecutive victories and was- not stopped 'unti1,Feb, 15. The team was especially tough in tournaments and did not los a tournament.game, until their last game of the' year which was the first gane.of the sectional. The team won 'five first place trophies--one each in the Roberts Blind Tourney, and a tie for first in the E. C. I. C. league. The team ani ed the season with a record of 29 wins and 6 losses. Never before in rthe history of this tournament were all the games played -with so few points separating the teams. In the opening -round, Buckley defeated Lodef42-353 the seven point margin being the largest mode by any team in the tourney. The semi- .fincl game was a thrilling one with Buckley managing to squeeze out a 32-51 decision-oyer a Thawville five who was playing its first game in the tourney. Buckley showed super- iority in rebounding at both baskets through out the game. The team also showed ability in making free throw as they counted 10 of 15. The final score was 52-25. Saturday even- ing, January 27, the trophies were presented to the winning teams. Buckley is now the possessor of the huge gold basket- ball trophy. , ' . REGIONAL CIOURIIEY - This year Buckley was not assiqned to a-district, but was put directly into the regional at Gibson City. Our first round opponent was Paxton, who we beat by a score of 25-25. In the semi-finals we-beat Sibley 53-51 in an over- time thriller.' Buckley played good ball in this game for the first 27 minutes. At that time the score was tied 31- 313a'Luecke made the only basket for either side in the over- time. ,The finals were played against Rantoul on the next night. The game was hard fought all the way, but Buckley finally pulled away in the last four minutes to win 36-29. The team looked wood in winning the very first regional bour- ney ever won by a B.C.H.S4 basketball teams The large plea que from the I.H.S.A. was presented to the entire startling lineup while the fans roared. , ' - B SBCTIOITAL 'IOTTRITTTY ' ' Buckley went to the Sectional Tourney at Danville with hopes of winning at least their first game, which was to be played with Danville. These hopes were rudely iolted how- ever when Buckley took its worst defeat of the season an it emerged on the short end of a 55-28 score.
