'iid' -'I' I-Ll 'I 'il 'i ',lBc ' ' ' Clada Jvfiatofzy Few of us can remember when we entered Buckland High School for the first time on September 3, 1940. There were twenty-one in all. Under the excellent supervision of Miss Margery Culver we soon became accustomed to the school and its surroundings. After eight years of hard studying we advanced to high school. This proved to be quite different from the grades. We entered our Freshman year with twenty one students. Our class advisor was Mr. Leatherman. In September we were initiated by the Seniors. This proved to be quite comical to everyone but us. The class officers were: President, Betty Lou Danielsg Vice-President, Virginia Ramgag Secretary, Darlene Smithg Treasurer, Beverly Sawmillerg News Reporter, JoAnna Ziegenbuschg Student Council, Norma Ruth Brookhart and Bob Sunderland. We began our Sophomore year with ten girls and fourteen boys, Unfortunately during the year Darlene Smith was stricken with polio and had to leave school. Also Donnie Witham moved to Lima where he entered Lima South High School. Betty Wycuff also withdrew from our class shortly after school began. The class officers were as follows: President, Jim Morgang Vice-President, Darlene Smith: Secretary, Dorothy Hagerg Treasurer, Faye Dingledine: Student Council, Norma Ruth Brookhart and Valgene Phillips. Many of us took part in the operetta, band concert, and Christmas program. Many of the boys participated very actively in basketball and baseball. We started our Junior year with nineteen pupils. However, Everett Bradford dropped out before the year was completed. In September we went on a one day trip with the Seniors to the London Prison Farm, Ft. Ancient, and John Bryan State Park. On November 3, after working very hard we successfully presented our class play, We Shook The Family Tree . We were very proud of our class rings which we received on November 14, 1950. We sold refreshments at the basketball games and did various other things to raise funds so we could honor the Seniors with a banquet on May 11. We all felt that it was well worth our time and effort. Mr. Brackney was our sponsor and helped us immensely with our prom and class play. The onicers for the year were as follows: President, Valgene Phillips, Vice President, Jim Howard, Secretary, Jerry Tangeman, Treasurer, Betty Daniels, Student Council, David Lambert and Freddie Miller. Several of the Juniors in the Bookkeeping Class journeyed to Ohio State University Campus where they took a National Bookkeeping Test. We sold magazines for two weeks and received a reward for selling the most magazines. As we entered our Senior year there were eighteen of us in all. Under the capable guidance and leadership of Mr. Geiger we made our final year in school a very successful one. Our class ofiicers for the year were: President, Jim Morgang Vice President, Jerry Tangemang Secretary, Jim Howard? Treag- urer, Valgene Phillipsg Student Council, David Lambert and Ronnie Sprague. On October 12, 1951, the Juniors and Seniors took a trip to Southern Ohio. Here we visited Old Man's Cave and the Rock House. We also sponsored two roller skating parties which turned out to be very successful. This year we sold refreshments at the basketball games to raise funds for our Senior Trip to which we are all looking forward. On April 18 we presented our class play, Grandpa Goes To College . On April 25 we jour- neyed to Pike County State Forest and spent the week end there. We all had a very enjoyable and exciting trip. May 8, is a date long to be remembered by the Seniors. This was the evening on which the Juniors honored us with a very colorful reception. We enjoyed and appreciated it very much. Our Baccalaureate Services were held on May ll, at the Buckland Congregational Christian Church with Rev. Carl Miller otiiciating. Our twelve years of hard studying were climaxed by our Commencement Exercise on May 15th. The commencement address was delivered by Dr. Harvey C. Hahn. Our class has participated in a large variety of school activities. Among them are basketball, band, F. F. A., Class Plays, and many others. Now as our school years are fast coming to an end we will remember many of the interesting exper- iences that we had and they will live in our memory for a long time. Our Senior trip will probably be the one last time that we shall all be together. This trip will take us to Washington, D. C. and New York City' -Jim Morgan
