Q SENIOR GLASS PROPHECY Since I had been wrapped up, shall we say, ln my Palomino horse ranch I thought it would do me well to look up my old classmates of 1950. So I land by way of Waynesfleld where Joretta Place KWa1tman now! invited me to see her home. She and Paul were engaged ln the business of farming. After a lovely supper prepared by Joretta I continued my travels. At Lima I hap- pened to take a walk before my bus left. Going do n the street I was at- tracted to a camera shop owned by Roger Tangeman. After a short talk I hurried and caught my bus. At Bowling Green we had a stopover for lunch, so this gave me the chance to look up two compan- ions of mine, Verda Ramsey and Ruth llc!-'heron who I found were busily engag- ed ln the occupation of teaching. I th n journeyed to Toledo where I had heard that Janice Wilkens was managing a beauty salon. Janice gave me a lovely hair do and I continued to search for my friends. I decided to take a plane the to all points West. To my surprise when I went to buy my ticket to Chicago should be behind the desk but Lula McName. At Chicago I went into 'Marshall Fields' department store, as I had heard so much about this famous store, and there I found another one of my classmates, Vera Sunderland, working behind the perfume cou ter. After r newlng our acquaintance we parted, I to my travels and Vera to her Job. I find that window shopping is quite interesting and at the same time easy on my pocketbook. It was while I was busily shopping for a fur coat that I bumped into a handsome Army officer who was as busy window shopping as I. I seemed to recognize him but couldn't place him. Sure enough lt was Bob Krites. He told me he had been drafted for ne year after he grad- uated and had llked it so well he intended to make it his life work. I then stopped in at a hotel for the night. As I we t by the desk I noticed a smart well dressed man registering. At a second glance I found it to be none other than Jack Werst. He informed me that he was president of the Westinghouse Corporation and was in Chicago on business. By now, he was married and llvlng near Buckland. Inoldently, he was very proud of a picture he showed me of his little boy, Jack Jr. The next day I again boarded a plane for further West. I had heard Virginia Kiser and her husband were the owners of a large fruit farm near Los Angeles. So I decided to look them up. I found that they enjoyed their business and were very happy. Oh, yes, she said they would send me a box of fruit each year at Christmas time. I am very lucky to have friends like her. In San Diego I came upo two more classmates, G ne Brookhart and David Lybarger who were in the Navy. g From San Diego I started East again and I must sayAI was glad to get going. In Tulsa, Oklahoma, I stopped for a day to see more so called sights. As I was getting hungry I dedlded to look for a restaurant. The name of 'Chat and Chew' sounded very good so I went ln and who should be the man- ager but Vernon Sunderland. We rellved our high school experl nces and I left to continue my way home. - In Oklahoma City I ran across Wilbur Hager who was managing a large farm machinery store. Incldentally the brand of machinery was Minneapolis Moline! I could see where he would be quite a success ln that line. From Oklahoma City I headed for Ft. Wayne where, by heresay, I had heard that Vlvlan Klser was living. Of course her last name wasn't Kiser any more but nevertheless she was still good Ole 'Viv' to me. Vivien told me that Ted Allen was the basketball coach at their high school, so I went to see him and found he had a game that night. His team was playing for the Championship. We had a little talk betwes quarters and he asked about all the other school chums. I had to leave immediately Klncldently Ted's team wonl by bus for Ohio. As I went to hand my ticket to the driver, to my surprise it was Ted Brincefield, whom I had not seen since graduation. I was assured of a safe ride homes When the bus pulled into Wapakcnetag I noticed a blonde haired lady standing ln line to get cn. Sure, enough lt was Virginia Stevenson. She told me she was on her way to Chicago where her Army officer husband was stationed. We d1dn't have time to talk but I was glad to see her again. I stopped ln at the library to tell La Donna Truesdale, who was working there about my travels. Having seen all my classmates I went back to my business of raising horses. Janet Fuerst left my foremen in charge and set out tc see the world. I headed for Cleve- CLASS H15 irony In the fall of 1958, twelve years ago, fourteen ered in Miss Margery Culvers' room for their first years went on, we gradually took heed to some of the first eight years of school life were fairly easy, school we found that harder work prevailed. We entered the ninth grade with twenty-two members in our class. Our class officers were as follows: President, Jack Werstg Vice-President Janet Fuerstg Secretary, Rose Mary Mlnknerg Reporter, Evelyn Fetterg Stu- dent Council, Verda Ramsey and Bob Krltes. A month or so after school started we were initiated by the seniors. This event was the most exciting for us, 'the green1es'. During this year many of us participated in the gpiretta, 'In Grand Old Switzerland' under the direction of Mrs. Kenneth r m. Our tenth year of school found that one member had quite school, but Janice Wilkins enrolled from Spencerville High School making again twenty- two members ln the class. Our class officers for this year were: President Gene Brookhartg Vice-President, Verda Ramsey: Secretary, Jack Werst, Trea- surer, Bob Kritesg Reporter, Martha Green, Student Council, Janet Fuerst, David Lybarger. Many of us took part in the Christmas program either in the band or the chorus. Upon entering the eleventh grade, we found a year of hard work before us. Our class officers for this year were: President, Janet Fuerstg Vice- President. David Lybargerg Secretary, Virginia Kiserg Treasurer, Joretta Place, Reporter, Virginia Stevenson, Student Council, Janice Wilkins, Gene Brookhart. We lost one member of our former year, but regained Virginia Stevenson from Blume High School in Wapakoneta. Shortly before the end of the first semester, Rose Mary Minkner withdrew and moved to Coldwater, Michigan. With her withdrawal we now had a class of twenty-one. Our Jun- ior Class Play 'The Atomic Blonde' was successfully presented October 8, l94B,under the direction of Miss Beulah Jones, our class sponsor. To raise money for the Junior-Senior Banquet, which 'was presented May 8, 1949, we sold schedule pencils, head scarfs, sponsored skating parties and sold re- freshments at basketball games here at school and also during the County Basketball Tournament at Waynesfield and New Knoxville. This year we re- ceived our class rings which everyone is very proud of to this day. Virg- inia Stevenson was crowned 'Queen of the Carnival' this year. Shortly after the carnival the Juniors and seniors took their annual trip to Cin- clnnatl where they witnessed Ruth Lyon's 'Morning Mat1nee', visited the zoo Many of us took part in the of the chorus. in our last year bf school week or so after school got are as follows: President, .seqretary, Verda Ramsey: boys and girls gath- bit of education. As things taught us. Our but as we entered high and other points of interest while there. Christmas story and also in the Spring Festival On September 8, 1949, we found ourselves with twenty members in the graduating class. A underway we elected our class officers which Bob Krltesg Vice-President, Virginia Stevenson, Treasurer, Joretta Place, Student Council, Wilbur Hager, Jack Werst, while Janice Wilkins is president of the Student Council. On October 25, 1949, the senior problems class held the First Auglaize County Vocational Day at the Buckland Congregational Christian Church to acquaint seniors with the advantages and disadvantages of the various fields in which many of them were interested. To make this day a good one we invited the seniors from the five county schools, Waynesfleld, New Bre- men, Minster, New Knoxville, and Crldersville. The day turned out to be a I I successg consequently we know that the day was educational as well as enter- taining. On October 15, 1949 the Juniors and seniors took a trip to South- ern Ohio. There we viewed many spectacular points of interest including Rock House, Ash Cave, Old Man's Cave, Cantwell Cliffs and other interesting places. Many of the members of this graduating class belongs to the band, chorus, 'Pioneer' staff etc. Seven of the bgyg play basketball on the var- sity. The Senior Class Play titled 'A Little Honey' was presented April 14, 1950. Now that graduation ls appearing closer and closer each day, we are all looking forward to our Senior trip, the last time that the whole class will be together, to Washington D.C. and New York. DUI YOUR KIDDING -an 5 9Q,f 5 The Bufords have had a hard time sinoe the death of lr. Buford, with little money and many bills. Evelyn, who is twenty, works in an office and helps as much as possible but the fifteen-year-old twins, Winnie and Binnie have to be provided for. Boon a letter comes from Aunt Sophronla saying she is going to visit them for a few days, and she ls glad that the ohlldren are girls because she despises boys and will give each of the girls a check for 85,ooo. Poor Winnie won't get a cent. Suddenly he has an in- spiration---he will borrow B1nn1e's clothes and pass for a girl while she is there. Finally Aunt Sophronla announces she is going to dis- tribute the cheeks. She says she is sorry the Buford child- ren are girls---if there had been a boy she would have given him S25,000. Gene Brookhart, Glen Place, Jack Springer, Everett Bradford and Bobby Su derland showed their livestock projects at the Auglaize County Fa1r.Some of the boys then went to the Allen, Van Wert and Putnam County Fairs where once again they gave Buckland a good representation by wlnnlng several flrsts. Last summer, Mr. Mowbray, Dallas Fox and Bobby Sunderland attended the FFA Camp at Camp Muskingum in Carroll County. The camp is located on Lake Leesvllle which is part of the Muskingum Conservancy District. They stayed for a week and brought back many ideas mx how to make Buckland a better chapter. In June, the FFA Quartet composed of Glen Place, Rex Place, Dick Gos- sett and Bob Bowersock went to Columbus to sing at the State Convention. Donald Mack was made a State Farmer at the convention and became the third State Farmer since the ag department was opened at Buckland. Just before Christmas, Santa moved part of his toy factory from the North Pole to the Farm Shop where the boys made little pull toys. These toys were distributed by the county health nurse to needy families in our comxtm Money making activities for the year were a square dance, selling llc- ence plate identlfication tags and sponsoring Mr. Wilbur Fish, the Joy Bell Ringer. The annual Parent and Son Banquet was held February 28th and more than one hundred FFA members, parents, faculty members and guests attended. Dallas High, the President of the Ohio Association of the Future Farmers of America, was the guest speaker. Dallas Fox served as toastmaster. Jack Springer was awarded the silver award for his Job as reporter and also the ton litter pin. On March 15th the Parliamentary Procedure Team traveled to Coldwater where they entered the contest and were awarded a gold medal for being an outstanding team. This was the first time a Buckland team had achieved the honor. We had a display of shop work at the Farmers Institute and a seed iden- tification board. These are a few of the accomplishments of the Buckland Chapter of the Future Farmers of America for the 1949-50 year. 1 I-IOME ECONOMICS Eg an S 1 y 5 J Standing: Mies Bieseoker, Beverly Sawmlller, Joan Ziegen- busch, Donna Esmond, Shirley Elsass, Edna Webb, Shirley Fryslnger, Betty Daniels, Marie Graber, Norma Ruth Brookhart. BAND .Y lk, This school year, under the capable leadership of Mr. Smith, our band has been very active and successful. One of the outstanding events of the year was our Spring Concert. Many new numbers were introduced for the first time. We played for several basketball games and also had a prominent part in the Community Institute program. We are looking forward now to several activities in which we have been asked to take part this summer such as the Lima Band Festival, County Fair and Memorial Services. We have every reason to believe that Buckland has aband of which it can be proud to claim as its own.
