We sincerely hope that your judgment will be favorable on the various phases of our school life and that you will always treasure this souvenir of your youth. To all who have helped bring this memento to you, we gratefully say Thank You. 2 CONTENTS ADMINISTRATION 5 SENIORS 13 CLASSES 37 ACTIVITIES 59 ATHLETICS 77 FAVORITES 89 ADVERTISEMENTS 97 DEDICATION A principal should be an executive, leading both the faculty and the student body, giving advice and helping whenever possible. He should guide with a firm hand, making decisions for the good of all concerned. Though you have only been with us a short time, you have proven yourself a capable leader and a strong asset to our school. For these things we now dedicate the 1960 BUCCANEER to you, Mr. Ted Alexander The student body wishes to express its thanks to our superintendent, supervisors and school board for their continued interest and the many ways they have contributed to the welfare of our school system. Mrs. Word Sponsor 64 JUNIOR Hl-Y The Buccaneer Co-Ed Hi-Y had a very successful year. Among some of the activities of club we find that at the Christ- mas season devotions were given over the P.A. system, favors were made for hospital trays, a basket of food was prepared for a needy family at Thanksgiving. CLUB AND SPECIAL REPORTERS 71 MAJORETTES A baton signifies the pretty girls in smart uniforms who strut ahead of the band. Even in winter weather our majorettes braved the cold in their short skirts add- ing color and interest to the group. Ruby Maxey, Drum Majorette, should be commended for the good job she did with her girls this year. As we look back through our souvenirs of high school, we find a music book and re- member our Band. We remember the fun of loading the bus for The Tobacco Festival and football games. Everyone enjoyed the humorous presentation of Junior Joins the Band and marching in the Dillwyn Day parade and then the Music Festival in May. As we turn these thoughts over in our minds we realize that none of these enjoyable excursions would have been possible without our fine director, Mr. Knapp. It has been through his dedication and determination that our band has succeeded. 73 BOYS’ CHORUS Pleasant memories of having been a member of the chorus will linger long in the minds of its members. Also fond memories will persist among those who have heard well loved stories expressed in vocal music. Many occasions and programs have been strengthened and made more expressive by the boys’ and girls’ choruses. For the first time an operetta, My Old Kentucky Home, was presented at the music festival.
