The stalwart defense. 9 The Hockey Team scored its nrst victory against Thayer Academy by a score of I0-I. This game was the highlight of the season thus far. Playing extremely well, B.8i.N. overwhelmed the opponents. The scoring honors were divided between Reischauer. with three goals. Mason with two goals, and many others, in- cluding Captain Blatchford with one apiece, The team was now starting to show some scoring ability, but experience was still lacking. On the first of Ianuary, we lost to Brooks in a hard played game, 4-0, and were next defeated by a strong Noble and Greenough team 8-l on February fifth. ln the latter game, we played well for the first period, but then slowed down. Banks scored our only goal. Our best effort of the season was made against Lawrence Academy at Groton. Reischauer, Mason. and Banks each scored one goal, with Clark providing two. The game, however, ended in a 55 tie, when the overtime period proved scoreless. Don Cooke played excellently in the nets. Milton then beat us 5-l at Milton, our lone goal scored by Clark. This game was followed by a 10-1 defeat at the hands of Groton. NVe then played St. Sebastian's in a rescheduled game, but they poured in four goals in the last period. Mason was our only scorer. On February Fifteenth, we played our annual game with Belmont Hill, this year at Belmont. The unde- feated opposition was too much for us, and we were beaten ll-0. Captain Parker Blatchford did an excellent job dur- ing the season. He and Banks will certainly be missed next year. The squad was comprised of many sopho- mores and juniors who have gained the experience necessary for successful teams in the future. CEI Q 1 ! M 25 vu 1 Ifrlnmnr Alllxlfkf Gunn' Time.

The Browne and Nichols Hockey Team won one game and tied one this past season. lnexperience and lack of consistent practice hindered the team's success throughout the year. Injuries to Captain Blatchford and other of the team,s more skilled players certainly proved detrimental to the teamis complete efficiency. The annual Christmas tournament, held at Watson rink, in which most of the private schools participate, proved to be the only means of practice before the team encountered Governor Dummer. The starting lineup for the Dummer game was Banks, Reischauer, and Tucker on the Hrst forward line, Clark, Lamarche, and Coon on the second, with Moran, Franchot, and Wax on the third line. Captain Blatchford and next year's captain-elect Mason comprised the first defense, while Todd and Tyler composed the second. Cooke and O,Connor were the goalies. On Ianuary eighteenth, the team played Governor Dummer at Watson rink. We lost 3-l. The highlight of this game was Paul Larnarche's solo goal late in the third period which salvaged B.8zN. from a shut out. M.I.T.'s freshmen team beat us in a very close game, which had to go into overtime, by a score of 4-2. Our lack of experience showed up in this game as M.I.T. put the game on ice by scoring two goals in the over- time period. Cooke and Tucker scored for the losers. Don Cooke put on the goalie pads in our game against a very powerful St. Marks squad. Proving to be no match for the opponents, we lost 12-1, Reischauer scoring our lone goal. Against New Preparatory, we were obviously outclassed. New Prep won handily 14-0. We then suffered another defeat, this time 8-0 at the hands of Middlesex.

The Wrestling Team, over the past four years, has had a record which, on paper, reminds one of the development of the hero in a Greek tragedy. During the first two years, we had an excellent team, composed of experienced wrestlers who lost only one match. However, all but a few of the veterans graduated leav- ing a team which, in the last two years, has won but one match. This change was rather discouraging, yet, as one could easily see while watching our matches this year, our spirit bears no resemblance to the tragic hero's spirit or position. Our season, this year, started off on an optimistic note. We beat Perkins and Needham in informal meets. In this type of meet, an effort is made to match wrestlers of equal experience, weight, and ability, with each other. We did not fare so well in regular season competi- tion as we did in these preliminary matches. The primary reasons for this downfall were the small num- ber of experienced men on the Varsity, and early season injuries to the co-captains Ierry Moskow and Don Emery, which prevented them from wrestling in many matches. Thus we went into the season with the main objec- tive of gaining experience, as well as winning matches. We accomplished both ends to some degree, although our only win of the year was a close match, forty to thirty-six, over Wellesley High School. We had another close meet with Brooks, but unfortunately lost. The rest of the season's scores were disparaging.
