We hit a performance peak at Thayer Academy on lannary 14. ,Xhead all the way, we won 64-33. lackson hurled 2.3, Captain Cunningham I4. jackson and Altman starred again against New Prep at Camhridge. VVe started slowly, hut wound up on top 42-24. Our second meeting with lielmont llill was more successful than the lirst. VVay ahead at the hall, we lielt we had it sewn up. The surging llelmont cluh, how- ever, pulled up to us in the second hall. Art Cunning- ham's marvelous clutch shooting saved us a three point margin, 49-46. Another close game was played against Governor Dummer, where we trailed hy a point at the half. lackson's 20 points and Shapiro's 30 rehounds kept us on top 44 -H. Our second game with Thayer was a shocker. Two points down, with seconds remaining, Shapiro tied the game as the huzzer rang. We won it 45-41 in overtime on haskets hy Shapiro and Altman. The next lour victories were less dearly earned. VVQ heat St. Sehastian 58-35 on major point outputs hy lackson and Cunningham. Christian was heaten again 60-39 when lackson scored 30. Rivers was downed NJ-il as lackson and Cunningham stink 59 points he- tween them. New Prep was overcome again on 28 points hy Iaekson and I5 hy Shapiro. Our winning streak ended with our season. XVe lost our last game to Lawrence Academy at Groton hy a li0l'Illltl3ll5lL' score. l.ess than a week later, we lost our semi-linal Tournament game to lielmont Hill hy two points. The skeptics were wrong. We certainly had a re- warding season thanks to a line team effort hy Adams, Clove, Altman, Cunningham, jackson, and Shapiro. TBALL The Browne :St Nichols Basketball team had a very successful season, in spite of discouraging pre-season predictions. Some of the forecasts disparaged our lack of height, others our loss of many last year stars. Coach Etter, however, dispelled many of the doubts when he stated that with a good team effort, we could have a very rewarding season, and perhaps be invited to the Private School Tournament in March. Skeptics gaufiawed. Pre-season games turned out fair, yet Mr. Etter's confidence was not shaken. During the annual Christ- mas Tournament, we beat Boston English, but were defeated by Arlington High and Belmont Hill, in our hrst of three trysts with the last. On Ianuary ninth, we opened at home against Christian High. We won the game handily with Altman, Cunningham, jackson, and Shapiro hitting for double Figures. Iackson picked up 22. Flushed with our victory over Christian, we made a trek to Portsmouth Priory, but were sharply let down by a 46-34 defeat. The skeptics looked smug. VN7hen, on Ianuary fifteenth, Groton invaded our gym, we knew we had a battle. Four down at the half, victory hopes were dim, but in the final minutes we edged ahead for a Sl-49 win. Doug Iackson hit for 25. Momentarily bouyed up by the last win, we went to Worcester. This Academy proved too powerful and we just c0uldn't get going. We lost for the second time 43-29. For the next ll games we went without a defeat. St. Sebastian was formidable, but we overcame them 555-l at Newton. jackson accounted for 19 points. Mike Altman and Doug jackson, with 21 and 15 points respectively, boosted BAN. to a win over Noble :Sz Greenough, as the team gained momentum.

The Browne and Nichols Hockey Team won one game and tied one this past season. lnexperience and lack of consistent practice hindered the team's success throughout the year. Injuries to Captain Blatchford and other of the team,s more skilled players certainly proved detrimental to the teamis complete efficiency. The annual Christmas tournament, held at Watson rink, in which most of the private schools participate, proved to be the only means of practice before the team encountered Governor Dummer. The starting lineup for the Dummer game was Banks, Reischauer, and Tucker on the Hrst forward line, Clark, Lamarche, and Coon on the second, with Moran, Franchot, and Wax on the third line. Captain Blatchford and next year's captain-elect Mason comprised the first defense, while Todd and Tyler composed the second. Cooke and O,Connor were the goalies. On Ianuary eighteenth, the team played Governor Dummer at Watson rink. We lost 3-l. The highlight of this game was Paul Larnarche's solo goal late in the third period which salvaged B.8zN. from a shut out. M.I.T.'s freshmen team beat us in a very close game, which had to go into overtime, by a score of 4-2. Our lack of experience showed up in this game as M.I.T. put the game on ice by scoring two goals in the over- time period. Cooke and Tucker scored for the losers. Don Cooke put on the goalie pads in our game against a very powerful St. Marks squad. Proving to be no match for the opponents, we lost 12-1, Reischauer scoring our lone goal. Against New Preparatory, we were obviously outclassed. New Prep won handily 14-0. We then suffered another defeat, this time 8-0 at the hands of Middlesex.
