Buckhannon-Upshur opened their 1952-53 basketball season on December 3 against a strongl Alumni team. A rally proved too late as the final score was 58-62 with t e Alumni ahead. B-U then went to jane Lew where they led most of the way. They top- T The Buck-ups then stayed at home Dec. 12 but dropped a tough one to 1 B-U then journeyed south to Princeton Dec. 18, but only to lose by the lop-sided score of 38-56. ' B-U went on to meet anew opponent, Bluefield, on Dec. 19. The Buccaneers could not stop the southerners as the final score was 52-69. On Dec. 30 B-U met Philippi on the home floor. B-U pulled out in the front and stayed there and chalked another win 63-47. B-U went to W -I Jan. 2 and met a strong Hilltopper team. A rally in the last few minutes wasn 't enough. The final score was 49-52. The next night B-U traveled to West Fairmont only to be overcome by the strong Polar Bears in the final seconds by a score of 30-41. Keeping to the road on Ian. 6 B-U went to Elkins and lost to the tall Tigers 43-51. At Weston the B-U lads made and outburst and walloped the Minutemen by the huge score of 84-68 on Jan. 9. On Jan. 13 the B-U team played host to Shinnston. Buckhannon led the first quarter but Shinnston came back strong to win 34-48. The Buccaneers won again on Ian. 20 by downing the Bearcats of Grafton 55-51 on the home floor. B-U beat Weston the second time by a score of 64-47. The Weston players couldn't match the strong offense on B-U home court. p B-U then t the cleaner on W-I and repaid them for an earlier loss. The battle was close and B-U ffhally took the lead in the closing minutes. The score was 47-44. B-U again traveled away from home to meet Victory on Feb. 3. B-U lost by the sad L score 40-59. At home Feb. 6 B-U played hard but tall Elkins was too much as the final score was 51-59. For the first quarter B-U held Shinnston down on their own floor, but B-U couldn't keep pace. Maybe Friday the 13th was involved. The score was 30-53. On Feb 17 the Buck-ups visited Grafton High School. The Bearcats exploded a strong offense and won 39- 69. At hofne on Feb. 20, B-U came back from an 18-4 half-time score and took Victory 30-35 in a great de- fensive battle. Buckhannon visited R-W for their last game. R-W took an early lead and was never in trouble as they won 44-69. B-U couldn 't stop the tall Presidents. B-U closed out the season with 8 wins and 12 losses. N F K C' n I I f t K V t r r ped the Redskins 50-40 in a good game Dec. 5. 5 W B-U went to Philippi Dec. 9 where they pulled one out of the fire and won 47 -45. E E i R-W.
