F H NVQ, 5 eel -N ee ,V -i frl' The Rhododendron to '--2 . 19-Barketball-30 The Buckhannon High School basketball season was considered successful, although in games won and lost their record was not so pleasing. Buckhannon opened the basketball season by defeating the strong alumni team 34-23. The first game away from home was with Roosevelt-Wilson, of Clarksburg, who defeated our team 17-12. The first visiting team to play Buckhannon High was East Fairmont. The Krausmen showed real strength by downing the Yellow jackets 44-20. The same week the blue and gray warriors journeyed to Phi'ippi and were defeated after a rough game, 13-19. The following week Buckhannon High played two strong - league opponents, winning the first game from Victory 25-19, but losing to the league winners of West Fairmont High 28-12. The Krausmen suffered another stinging defeat when the strong Elkins team defeated the locals, 27-16. The following week Buckhannon High showed real strength by win- ning over Victory High of Clarksburg by the score of 30-17. Elkins, later sectional champion, walloped Buckhannon at Elkins in the second game between the two schools by the lop-sided score of 36-23. After a week of rest Buckhannon High came back strong by defeating Grafton 38-16. The opening game of the three game series with Weston High provedlvery success- ful, with Buckhannon on the long end of the score of 25-ll. The following Tuesday Buckhannon bowed to the strong Washington Irving team after a hard fought battle, 32-25. The second of the three-game series with Weston proved to be a victory for Weston as shown by the score of 33-14. I After losing the first games to Philippi and Roosevelt-Wilson, the Blue and Gray team evened the count by defeating Philippi 27-24, and Roosevelt-Wilson 27-24, in the second game. In the sectional tournament, Buckhannon High defeated Sand Fork 34-6, Mill Creek 30-18, and Thomas 29-14, to reach the finals, where the strong Elkins team was again encountered. The Krausmen were overpowered and defeated by the Elkins Tigers in the finals by the count of 38-11. After the sectional tournament, Buckhannon High concluded its season of play by being defeated 49-17 by the victorious Washington Irving team of Clarksburg, later runners-up in the state tournament.
