I have a blue hat and coat that I wore Friday afterncon, so that everyone would be sure to see them. Mary Katherine Barnes has :t red hat with a pigeon on it. Everyone envies it. SEPTEMBER 1, 1921 I-have never heard of su many books-history, 'rithmetic, spelling, and reading. Daddy said if this kept up he would have to take the bankruptcy law. THANKSGIVING, 1921 We had a play this afternoon. Willard Baxa was john Alden, and Virginia Wise Farnsworth was Priscilla. I couldn't study fcr thinking about the turkey we're going to have. NEW YEARS, 192 2 Clyde Ervin and Mildred Casto gave a watch party. They said everything just looked the same to them, so they didn't believe a New Year ever came. f FEBRUARY, 1922 'We had a 'Washington program this afternoon. joe Dillinger took the pledge that he would always be as truthful as Washington. He broke a window about five minutes later and said Victor Thacker did it. . MAY, 1922 There weren't enough little girls for the May day, so twenty girls from our class acted as butterflies. ' SEPTEMBER, 1923 We have begun to take exams. I don't like them at all. I made 60 on History and Bo on'Geography. Everyone is wondering whether he will pass. I MAY, 1923 School is out. SEPTEMBER, 1923 For the last year we have assembled in our grade class rooms. Mathilde Leonard cried because she was afraid that she wouldn't be promoted. OCTOBER, 1923 We went on a hike today. junior Hartman fell in the creek, but Estie Young helped him the best she could by wiping the mud off with her handkerchief. MAY, 1924 We left the grades today. We will now be members of junior high school-and, what an honor! - SEPTEMBER, 1924 We are now under the supervision of Miss Kelly. In changing classes we wandered to the wrong room and were usually tardy before finding the right room. CHRISTMAS, 1924 We had a Christmas tree today. Wretha Peterson got a pink baby rattler from Eddie Frounfelter. I got a little doll with long, black curls. SEPTEMBER, 1925 We are now members of the eighth grade. This time we elected Bill Haper, presi- dent, Clyde Ervin, vice president. During the year we entertained with a chapel program. Page twenty-aight

I had waited six years for the call. Mother bought me a pretty new primer, with the picture of a boy and a dog on it. ' Vir- ginia, Kate, Bill, and I went down the street to school. The teacher gave me a seat on the front row. Then we read about Baby Ray. Guy Mick gllt a paddling because he spelled cow'l kow . THANKSGIVING, 1918 I am beginning to like school now. We drew pictures of pumpkins and pilgrims, and put them in the window. Clifford Baxa's pumpkin looked an awful lot like an ear of corn, but we lut it up anyway. The teacher told us a story about the -pilgrims. We get two holidays, thank goodnessl A CHRISTMAS, 1918 We had a Christmas program. I said Twas the Night Before Christmasf' Virginia McWhorter forgot the last Verse of her piece, so everybody laughed. Old Santa brought 1ne two dolls and a piano that you could really play. FEBRUARY 14, 1919 in We had a valentine box at school today. Bill Harper gave Margaret Dean avalentine that said, You're the apple of my eye. The valentine, I thought, was the pirettiest was the one Clyde gave me. I put it in my treasure chest. MAY 20, 1919 School is out. SEPTEMBER 2, 1919 Q Back again. I didn't realize how well I did like school. We have an arithmetic and a song book, beside our reader. Mildred Casto made an awful mistake when she said, Two plus two equal seven. HAI.LOWE'EN, 1919 - .5 We had a party at school today. I dressed like a ghost. We had gingerbread men to eat. We are going to parade tonight. LINCOLN s BIRTHDAY, 1919 We had a program about Lincoln. The teacher said he was the martyr of his country. lVIonk Tenney dressed like Lincoln and said th: Gettysburg address, You- should have seen how Orace Young drew the American flag. -' MAY 18, 1920 We went on a picnic today to celebrate the last day of school. Mathilde Leonard ate sixteen peanut butter sandwiches. My report card said that I was promoted to the third grade. - ' i SEPTEMBER 4, 1920 We felt important coming to school with the first grade this morning. We have a writing-pad new. We have lessons about two pages long. Robert Reger has begun to for- get to study. OCTOBER 12, 1920 This afternoon we had a Columbus Day Program. Carl Lamb sang Columbia, the Gem of the Ocean. It brought everyone to tears. I talked about the Indians while Ray Moore illustrated my talk. Page twenty-:ec an

The queen almost fell off the throne, but Kate Cutright saved the situation by helping her up again. SEPTEMBER, 1926 School once more. This is our last year in junior high. Again we elected Bill Harper, president, and Frank Everhart, vice president. We entertained junior high school with another chapel program. MAY, 1927 We had a party. I heard that Coley Hawkins took Milly Reppert, much to Monk Tenneyls disgust. At last the eventful night arrived. We were given our diplomas and were then the sophomores of Buckhannon High School. SEPTEMBER, 1927 We had a lot of trouble in getting our schedule fixed, but at last we started. Miss Wolverton, Mrs. Thornhill, and Miss Morton were our sponsors. Bill Harper was elected president, Frank Everhart, vice president, Maurice Tenney, Secretary, and Clyde Ervin, treasurer. . ' JANUARY, 1928 We had a chapel program. For once, Virginia Whiteis tongue ran away with her. She had Billy Bump down the hill before he spilled the water. Frank Everhalrt made a lasting impression as an orator when he told how Armour's Packing House rendered its lard. SEPTEMBER, 1928 Juniors at lastl We elected Willard Baxa, president, William Harper, vice president, Wretha Peterson, secretary, and Marian Deeds, treasurer. Miss Zickefoose, Miss Stockert, and Mr. and Mrs. Kraus were appointed as our sponsors. DECEMBER, 1928 The Junior English 2:15 class presented Overtones in assembly. We had a Christ- mas tree in class meeting. A thoughtful Junior presented Mr. Kraus with a rolling pin. MAY, 1929 The banquet was the biggest social event of the season. lt was a bountiful meal for the Seniors, for the Senior president said, Fm full of',, five times. SEPTEMBER, 1929 It is the beginning of our last year. Everyone shudders at the name of Senior English. Miss Boylen and Miss Snodgrass are cur sponsors. This time We elected Clyde Ervin, president, William Harper, vice president, Wretha Peterson, secretary, and Virginia McWhorter, treasurer. OCTOBER, IQZQ We gave a Columbus Day program. The living pictures would have been perfect, but Eddie Frounfelteris robe kept slipping inch by inch. DECEMBER, 1929 , We had a Christmas dinner. There we met Mr. Farnsworth, our class patron, for the first time. Miss Boylen's oration was the main feature of the program.
