Perhaps these hours didn 't seem as enjoyable during the long drudgery filled days of the school week, but what do they mean to you now? As I glance over momentos and souvenirs of my twelve years as a scholar, I realize that they have meant many happy hours, which I shall treasure for years to come. To me, one of the greatest benefits of entering the halls of learning is the chance to meet, work, and play with your classmates. They are the ones who spark your basketball team to a championship, make your class activities successes, and cheer you when the world seems sad. Yes, the most joyful days of your life will be spent in a classroom or at school activities. If you are a student now, become acquainted with your classmates. Participate in all the school functions possible, for all too soon these days fleet away. Lola Newton '61 8 Editor-in-Chief . . . Assistant ....... Business Manager . . Assistants ...... Chick WHAT IS SCHOOL SPIRIT? It is of the general consensus that school spirit means loyalty and devotion to your alma mater. Participation and interest in school activities are not the only means of expressing school spirit. Students will show it by hard work in their studies also. To have school spirit you don 't even have to attend school. You can be a parent, relative, alumni, or any interested citizeng it only requires an interest in your school and its activities. This can be done by attending sports functions, dances, and P.T.A. Much can be accomplished when everyone has school spirit and does his best to keep it alive in others. Commercial Club 16 Class Flower - Carnation Motto - United We Stand, Divided We Fall Colors - Maroon and Gray Senior Histor September 1958, twenty-five freshman students walked into Buckfield High School for the first time. There we had to face the Seniors, who really had it in for us. But Freshman Reception was en- joyed by everyone, including us. We held our first class meeting under the direction of Mr, Cochran, our class advisor, He left at the half year and Mr. Plummer took over in his place. Anne Southard also left us during the year, The next fall we came back as Sophomores. and Mrs. Chick became our advisor at this time. Dur- ing this year, Sandra Smith and Kathleen Gammon left us. We had a very successful Harvest Hop in November plus a paper drive and food sales. We ordered our Class rings in September and received them in November. 17 The school year of 1959-1960 we became jolly Juniors. Betty Sue Adams was promoted to the Sen ior class and Lynda Porter and John Haley left us. We had our first class play Life at Aunt Minnie's, in May which was a big success. We also had more food sales, paper drives and a Rock and Roll Dance. September 1960 arrived at last and now we the Almighty Seniors, took over. First of all we had Freshman Reception. Then a paper drive and a dance. We had our Senior class play, The Able Miss Cain in October, Carol Averill left us to join the service, Now our class totaled 20 members. We are all looking forward to our trip to New York in April. Mr. and Mrs. Chick will be our chap- erones and we all will have a wonderful time, Rosemary Bennett 61' 18 mgbugw SEOH Eg mdigum HOOnOw BONE Q swag WUMQEQ HAEUSU E 0303 H0055 snag .HE BHSOM E250 RAE 2.4 O,-ww HM HOOnOw MENU! mam EG ES-EU EDEN? .HE H55-Om 220 SEEMEL M3222 5520 Em OOM 2:3 mmm Siam gal an 520.53 igggw 0335 E:3pEWDm SOME SEQ ENE SOE 52308 3535 352 BUSH WOVEN? During September we held a food sale at Tilton's Market and in December, Bruce I ay and Alden Grabb came from WLAM and did a Hi-Fi Record Hop for our benefit. Six members of our class made the basketball teams. There were three girls and three boys. We plan to sponsor more activities during the rest of the year and hope to make our future years at B.H.S. successful. Brian Norris 64' 30 LITERARY LEST WE FORGET T'was four years ago, I remember it well On a cool fall morning At the sound of the bell, A group of shy students With innumerable fears Entered Buckfield High School For some fine, rosy years. Their fears soon vanished, Up rose their perception, With the droll situation Known as Freshman Reception. The ridiculous costumes, As fond hearts remember, Made these young, timid Freshies Become fully-fledged members, The years have sailed by, Golden moments of fun, Reflecting happy memories To this class of sixty-one. They'1l always be grateful, Their hearts truly claim Momentos of dances, plays And stirring basketball games. These times soon end, The future looms before, And past responsibilities Will affect success' score. Though the class will part And spread to distant shores, Its loyalty will always stay With B,H.S. for evermore. Lola Newton 61' THE CATSUP BOTTLE The catsup bottle sat there plainly Watching me with eye disdainly. Should I give it a mighty whack, Or maybe just a little tap? Quickly then I pounced upon it Tipped it up, with force I hit it Came the usual tiny trickle Oh, catsup bottle, you sure are fickle Rosemary Bennett 61' 32 BUC KFIELD HIGH SCHOOL Buckfield High is like a jail, I wish someone would pay my bail. All we do is work all day, Work and work without any pay. I'he four year sentence is really rough, The inmates here sure have it tough. Mr. Bean is the Warden for this school, He sees that we obey the rules. But I must admit with kids like us, The teachers have to raise a fuss. If we 're to learn the golden rule, We need a guiding hand in school. And when my sentence here is done, I must admit, that I for one Will be quite sad to graduate, And leave the school that 's really great. For deep down in my heart I know, There's no place to which I'd rather gog For Buckfield High means a lot to me, It 's the greatest school in the world you see Kathy Averill '63 LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT I knew that my heart would burst in song As I gazed at him for oh so long. His grey eyes sparkled like the morning dew, The feeling inside me has happened to few. His hair was dark as the blackest night And yet it shone in the pale moon light. He looked to me like some Greek god, But he spied a girl, and with a nod He went to her and there he stood I held back the tears the best that I could. I'd never believed in love at first sight But I changed my mind, when I saw him that night. Lola Newton '61 45 , W X Glee Club Our Glee Club got off to a good start this year with fifty members present. But unfortunately we have lost many of our members. We have not been very active, but we managed to go on with our group singing. I believe more students should participate in this activity. I believe music is important in our lives, and I would like to see more students participate in our glee club next'year.
