Just when I am about to become de- pressed over a student whom I feel I cannot reach, a workload which sud- denly seems Impossible, or an activity budget which cannot be stretched any further, something positive always seems to happen to outshlne the bad. I may see the llghtbulb of learning switch on in a student's mind during one of my classes, watch a student ath- lete reach the peak of perfection on the court, or find out that one of my stu- dents has received a first place award. These unexpected but elatlng exper- iences are the fruits of teaching - and they make all of the other frustrations that come with the job worthwhile. Although as adults we often label our youth as an uncontrollable, apathetic, and disrespectful group of kids, this certainly cannot be true ln all cases. Throughout this school year, for exam- ple, I've seen my journalism students receive the top honors ln newspaper judging contests - a drastic improve- ment over prlor years. In the same way, hundreds of other outstanding aca- demic and athletic achievements have been made by BV students during the year. Watching students reach these goals makes me realize that high school education ls not really regresslng. De- spite warnings to the contrary from pesslmists, learning is still going on strong at Buckeye Valley! Mrs. Sarah Graham Shield Advisor 174
