The individual student usually doesn’t realize the enormous amount of work which has to be done by people other than the faculty of a school to insure its effectiveness and to preserve its primary purpose of educating the youth of our country. The directors, supervisors, and other personne l who make up this organization often-time go unnoticed by those who their services directly affect. Such a person is Mrs. Oneita Lizotte. Mrs. Lizotte has been involved in education for many years and is presently a supervisor of schools in Medina County. She has been responsible for much of the improvement in the local school systems. Also, through her work as advisor to the S. H. Babcock Chapter of the Future Teachers of America, she has helped to insure a continuing supply of much needed teachers. It is to Mrs. Oneita Lizotte whose unselfish work in the field of education has been of infinite value to the students of Medina County, that this book, the 1959 Reflector, is dedicated. When we get up, eat, go someplace, or do something, we usually base our actions on time. But time passes— quickly for some, not fast enough for others. The time that you spend in high school is a very important part of your life—for the traits that you acquire there you will carry with you throughout your entire life. The passing of time tends to make us forget what is today so vivid in our mind. It is the purpose of this book to try to overcome this force of time. We have tried to picture accurately this past school year as it really was. Of course, not everything can be included; but we have tried to include what we think is the most important. You may disagree, but no matter—for many years from now this book may serve to bring back to you all of the times, good or bad, that you had while in high school. We sincerely hope that we have achieved our purpose and that you will treasure this book throughout your lives. The Editors Introduction A LOOK AT THE SCHOOL YEAR We studied hard to acquire knowledge .. . We worshipped together... We entertained... We honored our teams... We were entertained. FACULTY A Word From The Superintendent World conditions today lend more emphasis than ever to the fact that the theme of modern education must be for the pursuit of excellence. We need to pursue excellence in the art of getting along together. In a nation that has a mere 6% of the earth’s people; we must know these other people—their history, cultural background, the economic situation, etc. In this age of science the pursuit of excellence in Mathematics is im- portant. The launching of Sputniks has brought to everyone's attention the fact that scientists and students, far from being “eggheads,’” are important members of the human race. A few years ago public opinion was concerned with the common man. Today the demand is for the uncommon man—for scientists and scholars by education and spirit equipped to lead. lt The achievement of excellence is not : something measurable with tools nor by courses and credits. Excellence is a function of the human spirit; excellence is dependent upon a true desire to learn. My challenge is that you intensely cul- tivate the desire to learn in your work—in your pursuit of excellence. L. E. Naragon, Superintendent | eemeeeee MR. LLOYD NARAGON Heidelberg College B.S. Columbia University M.A. To The Students of Buckeye High School In asking me to write a word for your annual, you honor me. I appreciate and thank you for this opportunity. I should like to express my feelings about this high school to the members of the stu- dent body. The faculty, administration, and the entire school personnel hope that in the years ahead MR. Western Reserve University Problems of Democracy We hope that we have helped you to acquire the ability to think clearly, soberly, and without prejudice. Then, as you encounter the problems of the world, which you are certain to do, you will be able to take your stand with courage and confidence. Personally, I have enjoyed my first year with you, and I am very proud of our student body. It is our desire to maintain a quality education for all the pupils in our school district. I extend my best wishes for success and happiness to each and every member of the senior class. To the members of the other classes I offer an invitation for a new year of hard work and dedication to making our school the finest in the area. Robert Salisbury, Principal MR.
