The same anology holds true for a school and its student government. Buchtel is graced by an excellent student council which runs the student activities ef- ficiently and smoothly. The democratic elec- tions of Student Council, class officers, Home- coming Queen, Home Room Representatives, May Queen, and King B are some ofthe chief functions of the council, There is an ever- ready supply of pencils and erasers for student convenience. Before school started in September they welcomed the new freshmen with a program and refreshments, Registration Day was the next major service. Council also put on a freshmen stag, a record dance featuring Art Ross, and an open house. But what a habit to get into! The champs splashed home first in the city, barely getting wet, then grabbed second place to Canton McKinley in the district, finally coming down the wire pulling behi-id them a sixth place in the state out of Z3 teams. The sixth place in Ohio was gained through Bob Macusich's third in the 100 yard freestyle and, a third by the 200 yard relay team fBannister, Roush, Macusich, Strozierj. Macusich also sent spines a tingling by highlighting the year with two record smashing sprees: against Easthe churned to a new record in the 150 yard medley and in the district meet he shattered the 100 yard freestyle record. Coach Schifano experiencing his first year of handling the coaching reigns, was thrilled about the season and hopes to be around for more years to watch more, bigger and better championships roll through the doors of John R.
