D kjoar uDuoijan 7orea orc Only the photographs of another building, you say? How mistaken you are! To a passerby, yes, this is just another school building; but to students of Buchanan High School it means much, much more. The friends made here, the achievements mastered, the disappoint- ments suffered, and knowledge acquired here have made B.H.S. a very special building. It would be difficult to ever forget the crowded halls . . . The assemblies. . . the excitement of a close game. . . the pass slips. . . the cold bumpy bus rides . . . cramming for tests ... the discus- sions in class ... the mad scramble for the door . . . And so. here is your book, the 1961 YELLOW JACKET, which we give to you. May you always remember this memorable year in good old B.H.S. Decficai on We, the B. H. S. seniors of 1961, would like to dedicate this yearbook to our parents. To you we would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt appreciation. During our school years, you have been our guiding lights, the ones to whom we felt and knew we could go to with any problem that might confront us. Don't think that just because we are being graduated, and many of us will perhaps be going away from home, that this is the end of your helping us. No, we’ve found you so inspiration- al in the past that through the years, when ob- stacles become too tough for us, it will be you to whom we go. Thus proudly and hopefully looking toward the future, we dedicate this, our yearbook of 1961, to our BELOVED PARENTS. Jn Appreciation MISS ANN HEAD and MR. WADE WATSON In appreciation for the helpfulness, kindness, and interest taken in the publishing of the annual, the Annual Staff takes pride in giving its thanks to our sponsors, Miss Ann Head and Mr. Wade Watson. YELLOW JACKET STAFF OF '61 ADMINISTRATION C KHinttj Jioarc Mr. J. T. Williams, Mr. J. D. Hamrick, Mr. Arthur Abernathy, Mr. Gilbert Pope, Mr. Clarence Ellis. r iDocal Jjoara Mr. Glenn Dennis, Mr. Steve Garner, Mr. C. C. Jeffers, Mr. Fred Hutcheson, Mr. J. B. Morgan. DEAR STUDENTS: May I take this opportunity to congratulate you, the Senior Class of 1961, on your accomplishments. You have waited twelve long years for this event in your life and I am sure that your achievement warms the hearts of your friends and loved ones. You have been very successful thus far in your life and you have shown to die world that you have the ability and courage to stick with a task until it is finished. Your success in the past has been measured by grades and courses but your success in the future will be measured by your aspirations, your skill and integrity and above all your ability to serve your fellowman, your county and your nation, because humanity comes first and nothing is worth doing which does not help humanity. Remember anyone who gains his living by injuring others is a parasite, but one who earns his place in the great brotherhood of humanity by doing his part is remembered in the pages of history. I have much faith in this class and hope that you find all the success and happi- ness that this world affords in that wonderful tomorrow of yours. M. M. Sanders, Superintendent Haralson County Schools For every opportunity we have in our lives today, there is a corresponding responsibility. For the splendid opportunity of freedom there is the responsibility of safeguarding that freedom. We believe that nowhere is the Youth of America given a better laboratory for the preparation of life than in our present day schdol system. In many instances real life situations are provided to develop judgement, loyalty, stability, and other essentials for good character. The YELLOW JACKET STAFF in presenting this Memento of the school year of 1960-1961 have availed themselves of the opportunities given and discharged their responsibilities in a noble way. Theirs is the deserved reward of a job well done. WILSON C. May 12. 1961 JJrop iecij Through the use of the Prophoscope, a new invention, which is better than all of the other ways of fortune telling, we hope to succeed in depicting the futures of the members of the graduating class of 1961. By looking into this wonderful device we can reel off rapidly the events that are visible to us. First, we have Miss Betty Lou Miller who will meet a young man who has fallen heir to a 200 acre orange grove in California. They will be married at once and move to their western home. Mr. Madison Monroe who has long been interested in Physics will go im- mediately after graduation to the dry lands of Idaho. Here he will try out his newly patented invention for bringing water out of the ground without digging, drilling, or driving pipe. James McAdams has always been fond of doing stunts. His bones seem to be made of India rubber and his various contortions have been the delight of his classmates. Upon graduation he begins a year’s engagement with Bailey Barnum Circus and is advertised as the world's greatest contortionist. Elaine Reid will invent a new cosmetic guaranteed to remove all blemishes from the face in fifteen minutes, giving it a clear and radiant hue most charm- ing to the eye. Through this she will accumulate a great fortune and be pre- sented at an English Court where she will meet her true love. Jane Nash who has always liked the chic chapeaux will open a hat shop under the trade name of The Three Dollar Hat Shop, No Two Alike. Being entertainers doesn't have to end with high school days. Larry Mc- Carley, Bobby Addison. Roger Garner, Vaughn Gable, Jimmy Morris. Gary Nix, Shelba Martin, Carol Thompson, Faye Priest, and Kaye Walden will form a dramatic club. They will go to New York and perform under the bright lights of Broadway. The title of their latest play is What's Done Can't Be Undone. Dennis McBrayer, who was always fond of athletics, starred as a football player at Auburn University and remained at the college as a physical educa- tion director. Oh. we see surprises in the future - Buster Biggers will be a famous heart specialist in the big city of Chicago; we see Leon Blackman as a great detec- tive - Sherlock Holmes the second, working with the F. B. I. in Washington. Just listen to this - Billy Vines will go far and near as an Auctioneer. Earl Lee will be a circus barker and his charming wife, Ann Lovvorn, will be at his side as an animal trainer, with no special profession except that she charms the opposite sex. Tommy House will develop into a real lady killer. Marcelle McDowell will follow her talent in Home Economics and become a noted interior decorator. Matrimony will be the aim of some of our dignified seniors for we see Jackie Adams. Phyllis White. Julia Bennett. Barbara Thomasson. Brenda White, and Betty Browning happily married and settled in their rose-covered cottages with children running around. Jimmy Cheatwood. after acquiring much property in Florida, will own and operate a track for dog races.
