JUNIORS WILLIAM DIJDLEY-Pfesifieml SALLIE CLARE-Secretary. LQIS NASH-Historian. The Junior class of Buchanan Highl' is easily the most promising UD group of students known in the history of this school. In our midst We have a second Edison, and our classmate, Ralph Copher, is advancing on the road to fame as a connoisseur of precious stones, particularly Davis sapphires. Jennie D. Trail is destined to sur- pass Madame Schumann-Heink in her operatic career. Both ivocally and instrumental- ly she puts the Sirens to shame. Our talents are not confined to science and art. In athletics We also excell. Paul- ine Allen the captain of the girls' basketball team, comes from our .ranks and the staunch guard Rose impresses her opponents that this rock shall fly from its firm base as soon as lf, Our contribution to the boys' team is not to be ignored. Leo Cropper won laurels for class with his long field throws. Possum may be an ap- propriate appellation at times but in a basketball game we say '4Tiger. Not the least of our virtues is persistency. In the Freshman year we numbered 28, at present 20. We have had an unusually small percentage of loss. Need more be said? VVatch us in 1917! C125

SOPHOMORES . - - Years have passed: It was midnight, and like the ghost of lrIamlet's father, I returned to earth. My spirit haunted Buchanan I-Iigh, even as that of the dead Colonel Pycheon haunted the House of Seven Gables. I ascended the stairs quietly. No clanking of chairs was heard as on that night when Marley's ghost went to visit Scruge. The chapel doors were open and I entered. I recognized fellow Sophomore spirits. I counted seven although there were twenty-one. The other Sophomore spirits were evidently cutting. What a terrible thing for a spirit to do! Chapel was dismissed and I unconsciously went to the history room. I-Iistory was conducted as usual by our sweet pickle. The ghostly voices responded to the questions about Ed- ward the Confessor whose shade was now our fellow ghost in the realms of death. Edward had confessed everything to us there, so the class answered the pickle shade unusually well. In the German class the students were reading, Der Watch am Rhine, but eternally they would confuse the River Styx with the Rhine and finally the sweet pickle turned sour. Next came plain Geometry, although it was anything but plain to me. The Norvel spirit was proving following theorem. Given: A tomb- stone with the first line of the epitaph parallel to the last line. To prove: That the second line is tangent to the engraved wreath of flowers above the epitaph. Proof: Draw diameter through the wreath of flowers. By hypotheses the first is perpendicular to the secondg Therefore, It is tangent. I've had my dinner for even a glfost must eat and I went to 1ny first afternoon class. Whew! but this room was cold, cold as ice. Need I say this was the English room? I remember that the low temperature once inspired Allen Smith to become a poet and he produced the following lines: A The frost was on the windows. It was thirty in the sun. I Miss Stupp would open the windows. You should have seen us run. To which Miss Stupp, strangely foreseeing tle place whither we were all tending, replied as follows: There's a place I won't name. It has fire and flame And its heat-is very intense. ' If the boys fuss any more at an open window or door, I shall tell them to take themselves hence. From this refrigerator I went to the Latin room. None of the Sophs were Com- plaining about the high temperature. I judged therefore it was similar to that of their present abode. As a spirit I was more interested in Latin class than I ever was C145
