This year the Buchanan Junior Varsity had a seven game series which was the most extensive series a Buck Junior Varsity team ever had. Al- though the Jayvees won only two games, they showed great possibilities, and improved steadily throughout the season. They succeeded in beating Niles and Dowagiac and battled St. Joe to a nothing-nothing tie. The games they lost were to Benton Harbor, Galien, New Troy, and New Carlisle. The reserves were -by no means a poor team tor they lost to only one reserve team, Beniton Harbor. C-alien, New Troy, and New Carlisle were varsity teams, so the Buchanan Reserves did exceptionally well in their own field. The boys enjoyed their season because they had a very fine coach, Henry D'Agostino. In l956, with the returning players he will have, Coach be- lieves, a winning Reserve squad can be produced. The battery for the 1955 baseball team included Jim Bob- bitt Cholding balll-catcher and Dick Proud and Jim Conrad- S pitchers. Dick Proud under- studied Jim Conrad, the regu- lar pitcher. Bobbih' and Conrad were four year varsity men on the teams that won the Confer- ence B Championship for two consecutive years. Richard Cowen broke the school record in the 880 yard run with a time of 2126.6 Jim Letcher followed by setting a new record in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet. Paul Thompson was not only a record breaker in the shot-put event, but he was also the most consistent point gainer with tosses that were well over 40 feet. Jim Letcher, Paul Thompson, and Richard Cowen placed in the Conference meet with Jim going on to the State finals and winning third place in the high jump. Although the team didn't win any meets, it showed the fighting spirit that will eventually build a group of athletes into a winning team. The team lacked experience and depth in material, but Coach Billings ex- pocts a much better record in the future because of the large turn out on the freshman squad. Returning in l956 are Richard Cowen and Paul Thompson, from whom the younger squad members can learn much about the art of running track. First Row ll to ri-F. Kline, W. Boyle, J. Anderson, T. These boys were members of the seventh grade track team and the eighth grade track team of 1955. On, these teams they obtained valuable training for their future on the varsity team. The junior high thin clads participated in the same events as the varsity team, with the exception of the half mile, mile, and high hurdle races. These events were excluded because they are far too strenuous for boys of junior high school age to run. The teams keep no formal records of their season's accomplishments, but they did have set schedules. Among the schools an their schedules were Niles, St. Joe, Benton Harbor, Berrien Springs and Dowagiac. Dixon gl Pendley SEVENTH GRADE Standing-L. Webber, S. Coffinger, M. Dalrymple, B. Cronin, L.
