In the week they were gone, they toured Gettysburg, Pa., Washington, D.C., New York City, and Niagara Falls seeing such sights as the home of Jenny Wade, Electric Map of the Civil War, Iwo Jima, the Capital, the Statue of Liberty and the Falls. Dave, Chris, Joe, Steve and Larry take a formal stance at Arlington Cemetery. June 9, they left Niagara Falls and headed toward home after passing the famed Floral Clocks. J.C.L. Whiteman was chosen to be teacher and principal. In the fall of 1899 eleven students enrolled, they were eighth grade graduates and some had already taught a term or two. The first classes met in a building West of town, a two room two story building in bad repair, only the upper floor being used. The lower grades met in the Bonifas building. The new school was ready for the second year, and there were two years of high school work. Near the end of the year, an outbreak of measles almost closed the school. The school continued to grow as the country schools were abandoned and in 1913 when Freeman L. Jones became trustee, the building was enlarged, the East half being built. At the same time the teaching staff was further increased, the school changed from a three year to a four year course and was commissioned for the first time. In the year 1951, the community contributed their time, labor, and money toward the construction of the gymnasium. With the completion of Bloomfield Elementary School in the 1969-70 school year, Bryant became a Junior-Senior High School. 57 Time it was, And what a time it was, It was . . . A time of innocence. A time of confidences. Long ago ... it must be . . . I have a photograph. Preserve your memories; They ' re all that ' s left you. Each year Universal Stoves brought their new models to Bryant and the people in the community would celebrate this Universal Day. They encouraged everyone who lived here to come out so that they could take a picture. The picture below was taken in front of the buildings that are presently occupied by Hen House Antiques.
