Seniors lost from the team are John Garlinser and Kenny Keller. ZUERCHER ' S MUSIC SHOP Berne, Indiana -27- CROSS COUNTRY The Cross Country team also did quite well last fall. Most of the meets were run at Portland, Geneva, or Pennville. Bryant beat such teams as Pennville, Hagerstown, Winchester and most of the county teams. They were defeated by Portland, Geneva (twice), Pennville, and Redkey. At the county meet the team placed second as Ray Schultz was the county winner for thesecond straight year. , The team was composed of juniors: John Hoffman, Don Snow, Don Shoemaker, and Tom Muhlenkamp. Sophomores: Larry Boice, Ray Shultz, and Ernie Fifer. Freshmen: Mark Houser and Roger Rittenhouse. The team, composed of under class- men, looses no one due to graduation and should be very successful next fall. . e ' - 28 TRACK Bryant ' s track team did very well last spring. Most of the meets were at Adams Central, Berne, and Geneva. Bry ant usually finished second or third at these meets. Again Bryant won the County Track Meet held at Dunkirk. They finished thirty points ahead of their nearest competitors. They won many firsts and also several important seconds and thirds. Wins were recorded in the lOO yard dash, 220 yard dash, 880 run, mile, broad jump, low hurdles, high nurdles, and both the mile and half-mile relays. Gone from the team are Les Hayden, Larry Orr, Dwight Michael, Dennis Link, and Bill Moore. Once again we hope to win the County Meet. We have several fine runners back and should be in contention for the County Championship. F. C. Y.F.C. officers this year are President, Janice Stauffer; Vice-President in charge of programs, Julia Illif; Vice-President in charge of publicity, Keith Keller; Secretary and Treasurer, Lois Herman; Song Leader, Don- avon Shoemaker. TRI-HI-Y The Tri-Hi-Y girls, sponsored by Mrs. Ketchum, have added a little life to the school spirit by sponsoring record hops after the basketball games this year. -41 - SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY The year is 2000 A.D. The place is anywhere in the universe. The time is now. This is Don Minch in my souped-up space ship. I am a member of the space patrol. I am going to tell you aboutsome of the classmates I ' ve encountered during my duty as a space patrolman. My first encounter was with my old classmate Sue Fennig. She was working on the planet Mars in a drive-in restaurant for space ships. The name of the restaurant is Charlie ' s Fly In. Yes, the same Charlie of high school days. They own a large chain of res- taurants and have at least one on every planet. Their slogan is Our food is out of this world. Beep! Beep! Excuse me folks, that ' s my intercom radio. Trouble on Venus. Instantly, I punch my Venus button and we ' re on our way. The trouble is a speeder going 5000 miles per minute too fast. Now, I will stop the space ship and arrest the unknown driver. Well, guess who the driver is? Patty Kelly! It seems that every time Patty drives, she goes too fast. I have no alternative, but to send her to court. The judge is none other than the honorable John Henry Garlinger. John has been a judge for ten years, having graduated from Harvard on the far off planet of Earth. The fine is the same as on Earth -- $17.75. John and his secretary then invited me to supper, but be- ing on duty, I could not accept. Meanwhile, on Earth, World War III is in the making. President Kaye Welsch is attacking Russia. It seems Russia made a wise- crack about a woman being President. Kaye and her military ad- visor, John Tuffman Hoffman are making the final plans for the attack. Good luck, Kaye! Beep! Beep! Time for the half-time score from the big game between the Space Cadets of Jupiter and the Komets of Earth. The score is now 4-2 in favor of the Cadets for which, none other than, Kenny Holstein Keller is the coach. ' His team is undefeated so far. Their record is 0-0. Sitting in the audience, we see Kayellen Moore, now Mrs. Dave Pyle, cheering for her favorite team. They own a wide variety of Pottery Shoppes. Their saying is A pot for every home. Beep! Beep! Emergency call from the Silent Giant building, in which robots are made. It seems that Mariam Shephard, no less, is caught in one of the elevator ' s capsules. She was taking dictation, when her boss, a robot, got up and chased herl!ll Larry Grogg went on to Huntington College and is now a very successful ranch resort owner in Colorado. He owns a 59,000 acre ranch and has 20,000 Hereford steers on his ranch. He owns two Cadillacs and has two airplanes to check his ranch. Larry ' s real income is from the tourists. He has fifty tourists per week and at le ' ast forty of them are girls. He teaches them riding, roping, and other important lessons. Larry has yet to marry, but with two thousand girls visiting his ranch per year, he is soon to fall. -42- Another classmate has joinea the Bingling Brothers ' Circus. Carol, the sponge diver, is the main attraction. She was known-to us as Carol Hiestand. In a few minutes, the Sponge Diver is going to attempt her greatest feat. She is to dive into a wet sponge, from the top of a looo foot cliff. Happy ending, Carol! In the happier surroundings of Venus, we find Sandy Whetstone taking care of her husband and a family of twelve. I guess they believe the old saying Cheaper by the dozen! They manage a re- sort for Newlyweds. Of course, their tribe helps out tremend- ously. Now, I see the sun setting in the west on our wonderful planet. This is the sign that my space-patrol duty is over for the day. There fore, 1 must go back to my headquarters and my loving wife. This is the class of I964 saying: Roger!!! Kenny, Kaye, Larry and Sue JUNIOR CLASS RINGS SOPHOMORE CLASS ■ JACKETS -43 JUDGING TEAMS This was a very successful year for the dairy judging team. At the county contest, the team placed second. This gave them the the right to compete in the district contest which was held at Hartford City. Here, Bryant again placed second, earning the right to compete in tne state contest. At the state contest, the team, composed of Kenny Keller, Mike Ninde, John Hoffman, and Donavon Shoemaker, and coached by Wayne Haffner won many honors. They we.re second place team over all - losing to Berne by one point. Kenny Keller was high individual in the state contest while Mike Ninde was fifth high individual, but above all they earned the right to participate in the national contest at Water- loo, Iowa. At Waterloo, the team finished in the upper half of all teams competing. The crop judging team also did quite well. They won the county contest. At the district, the team composed of Dwain Michael, Tom Coats, Marvin Starr, and Allen Chrisman finished seventh - just missing the chance to compete in the state. -44 The livestock judging team also did very well ihis year. They placed first in the county contest to earn the right to compete in the district contest where the team placed third and moved on to the state contest. The team composed of Dwight Michael, Joe Huey, Tom Muhlen- kamp, and John Weigel finished eighth over all. This team also received a trip. They went to Kansas City, Missouri to the national contest. Here Dwain Michael took the place of his brother Dwight since Dwight was attending Ball State College. At this contest they finished eighth. LATIN Mr. Cheek and his second-year Latin students; Ester Bryan, Crystal King, Dick Walter, Janice Stauffer, and Becky Schoenlein wanted a picture taken since the class is unusual at Bryant. They all seem to be enjoying the class, don ' t they? 45 KITCHEN STAFF h Cjii- This year our cafeteria is well equipped with help. Along with the re- gular two, Mrs. Poling and Mrs. Hartnagle, are Linda Loy, Darlene Gettinger, Donna Rittenhouse, Sheryln Caster, Barb Stults, Allen Chris - man, and Don Snow. They give the best of their services each day to serve us our meals promptly. BUS DRIVERS JANITOR These smiling faces belong to our excellent bus drivers, Mr. Murphy, Reverend Brookshire, Mr. Masters, Mr. Craig, and Mr. Schoenlein. Here we have Tom, the person who keeps our school clean and warm. TWELVE YEAR SENIORS Although the Senior class is smaller than usual this year, there are some students who have stuck it out here at Bryant for at least twelve years. In recognition of these brave few we should erect a statue, but since we cannot, this picture will have to take its place. 48 CLASS POEM We are the class of ' 64 A better group you ' ll never find Four young lads and seven young lass Make up the members of our class. One of our basketball boys, Who always makes a lot of noise. Is John Garlinger, as you might know. He always helps to conquer tne foe. One great mystery of the age Is how he ' s going to earn his wage In speech class, peace he ' ll always keep For Don Minch is often feigning sleep. School ' s a bore for Patty Ann For she ' s already got her man, Around the school she ' s usually shy We wonder how she got her guy. First in line is a daring young girl Who goes around with tier head in a whirl Dave s wife is her aim Kayellen Moore is her name. Kenny is what they call him But Kenny Keller is his name A real good sport in everything We hope he ' ll always stay the same. Sandy Whetstone the valedictorian for this year Everyone knows when Sandy is near Her brains haven ' t really gone astray Although she sometimes acts that way. Mariam Shepherd with her friendly smile Will operate an IBM machine for awhile She will go on in her care -free way After she s graduated on the 20th of May. Larry Grogg is the industrious kind A nicer guy you ' ll never find He is a big help on the farm And can ' t resist certain girl ' s charms. Kaye Welsch is looking for higher knowledge After school, then comes college Teaching school and all the rest For her future years, I see Success. Her friends include most anyone. Always ready for. a party in class. She never misses, this fair young lass.
